'Amazing Race's' Phil Keoghan Shopping New Yacht-Racing Series

by Sharon Knolle, posted Jun 21st 2010 10:08PM
'Amazing Race' host Phil Keoghan is signing up for a new race around the world: He'll host and co-produce a new reality series about the Velux 5 Oceans race, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The series, which will be shopped to U.S. networks, will follow solo skippers as they risk their lives during an intense nine-month yacht race around the world.

"Extreme adventure sports have been captured many times, but what makes this race so unique is the world's best sailors will take on the unforgiving oceans alone," Keoghan said. "This is a fantastic opportunity to share a physical and mental challenge that will test competitors beyond what seems humanly possible and at the same time highlight the planet's awe inspiring oceans."

Here are more details from the race's official website:

"Racing begins in La Rochelle on October 17, 2010 with the skippers heading for Cape Town in South Africa. From there they will head into the notorious Southern Ocean stopping at Wellington in New Zealand before rounding Cape Horn and making for Salvador in Brazil. A short hop up the coast to Charleston in South Carolina, USA, makes up the fourth leg before the skippers set off across the Atlantic to complete the race in La Rochelle in May 2011."
