Eliot Spitzer, Kathleen Parker to Co-Host New CNN Debate Show
Former New York governor Eliot Spitzer and conservative columnist Kathleen Parker are teaming up to co-host a new roundtable news show on CNN. The still-untitled program will premiere this fall and air weeknights at 8PM ET, according to a CNN press release. The show, described as a "spirited, nightly roundtable discussion program" by CNN, will feature a panel of opinionated guests discussing the biggest news stories of the day.
"Other cable news channels force-feed viewers one narrow, predictable point of view; in contrast, CNN will be offering a lively roundup of all the best ideas -- presented by two of the most intelligent and outspoken figures in the country," CNN president Jon Klein said in a statement.
Spitzer says the show, which seems to feature a similar format to CNN's previous events debate show 'Crossfire,' looks to "advance the discussion of the defining issues of our time."
Spitzer and Parker will take over for CNN's current 8PM anchor, Campbell Brown, who announced in May that she is leaving the network due to low ratings. (Her eponymous show has averaged about 591,000 viewers, according to recent reports.)
CNN itself has seen a drastic decline in ratings in recent years. As PopEater previously reported, shows like 'Anderson Cooper' and 'Larry King Live' were down around 50 percent in the first quarter of 2010. 'Larry King' in particular saw its worst quarter ever, averaging a measly 771,000 viewers.
