Actor/rapper Mos Def has joined HBO's upcoming comedy series 'Enlightened,' Deadline.com reports.

The series will star Laura Dern as a self-destructive woman who has a spiritual awakening and decides to live an enlightened life, turning her work and family life upside-down. Mos Def will play her new boss when she returns to work.

This will be Mos Def's first full-time series.

The actor is best known for his film roles 'Cadillac Records,' 'Be Kind Rewind' and '16 Blocks,' but has had several memorable TV turns: He was a frequent guest on 'Chappelle's Show' and guest-starred on a 2009 episode of 'House' as a patient with locked-in syndrome, a condition where he could not move or communicate except with his eyes.

He's also guested on 'The Boondocks,' ' My Wife and Kids,' and 'NYPD Blue.' In 2004, he received an Emmy nomination for the HBO movie 'Something the Lord Made.'
