Elijah Wood to Star in FX Comedy Pilot
Elijah Wood is having a good week.First came the news that his movie, 'The Oxford Murders,' a festival favorite that has been looking for a distributor since 2008, will be released on Aug. 6. And now comes word that the 29-year-old actor will star in his first television series.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Wood, who hasn't appeared on TV since playing the Artful Dodger in a 1997 adaptation of 'Oliver Twist,' is set to star in a comedy pilot called 'Wilfred' for FX.
The show, based on the Australian hit of the same name, is about Ryan (Wood), a guy who must contend with his date's dog if he wants the relationship to progress. Jason Gann, who co-created the series and originated the role Down Under, will play Wilfred the dog, who appears to Adam as a guy dressed up in a really bad dog costume. The role of the girl/Wilfred's owner has yet to be cast.
The pilot, which is set to be shot this summer, is from a script by David Zuckerman ('King of the Hill') and will be directed by Randall Einhorn ('The Office').
Wood will next be seen on the big screen this September in 'The Romantics,' a rom-com co-starring Katie Holmes, Anna Paquin and Josh Duhamel. He will once again voice the lead penguin, "Mumble" in the 3D sequel to 'Happy Feet,' which will be out in November 2011.
FX, with shows like 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' and 'The League,' is delving deeper into the comedy realm, and has a new autobiographical sitcom, 'Louie,' based on the life of comic Louis C.K., premiering Tuesday at 11PM ET following the sixth (and final) season premiere of Denis Leary's 'Rescue Me.'
