MTV Denies 'The City' Has Been Canceled

Canceled?! What? It just, finally, got good this season!

We're talking about 'The City,' 'The Hills' spin-off series that was rumored to be on the chopping block now that 'The Hills' is winding down to its Jul. 13 series finale.
But, good news, according to GossipCop.com, which reports that MTV has officially denied 'The City''s departure from its primetime line-up. The show's cancellation is "totally 100 percent not true," MTV programming president Tony DiSanto tells GossipCop.com.

Thank goodness, because the reality TV landscape would be a lot poorer without weekly doses of the deliciously outspoken Kelly Cutrone and that sneaky, conniving Olivia Palermo, one of the reality villains we most love to hate.

For those uninitiated to the goings on of 'The City': 'The Hills' Lauren Conrad became friends with Whitney Port when the two were interning at Teen Vogue magazine. Whitney proved to be so charming (if, admittedly, a little boring) amongst all the drama queens of 'The Hills' that MTV producers packed her up, moved her to New York City to pursue a career in the fashion biz and chronicled the whole thing on 'The City.'

The show's first season, though a ratings hit, lacked the buzz of 'The Hills,' until three things happened: People's Revolution PR shop owner Cutrone (who already earned her own series on Bravo) got more screen time with her refreshing no-BS philosophies and method of operation (in an industry that's 99.9 percent BS); Whitney's more in-your-face Los Angeles pal Roxy Olin (daughter of 'thirtysomething' and 'Brothers & Sisters' stars Ken Olin and Patricia Wettig) arrived, looking for a place to crash (with Whitney) and a job (with Whitney, at "People's Rev," as they often refer to it); and plotting Olivia, one of those attractive, privileged people who seem to fall bassackwards into opportunity after opportunity, got a job at Elle magazine, where she met up with on the ball publicist Erin Kaplan, one of the few people not to be wowed by Olivia's alleged fashion talents.

And that's where season two, which premiered on April 27, picked up, with Whitney launching Whitney Eve, her first fashion line; boss and mentor Kelly helping her navigate the tricky, backstabbing waters of the fashion world; Roxy growing ever more tired of toiling in Whitney's shadow; and Erin trying to get everyone to see that Olivia ain't all that.

There's been an Olivia vs. Whitney smackdown, an Olivia vs. Elle editor Joe Zee smackdown and numerous Olivia vs. Erin smackdowns (all verbal, of course ... this isn't the 'Real Housewives'), and each new Tuesday night episode (10:30PM ET) promises even more.

Thank you, reality TV gods. And MTV.

WHO is that gorgeous and oh so stylish real estate broker showing Roxy her potential new apartment in the preview for next week's episode??? I think her name is Linette Semino. I've seen her out and about a lot at society events and fashion shows in NYC...Maybe she is a new character on the show coming to spice some things up with Roxy..I hope so, the show needs some new cool chicks who are in glamorous careers other than fashion...so happy Roxy is finally deciding to move out of Whitney's apartment..it is about time she starts to establish her independence..Can't wait to see next week what happens.
