IFC to Air 'Freaks and Geeks,' 'Undeclared' Reruns
For 10 years, 'Freaks and Geeks' has stood as a Holy Grail of quality TV making that, like so many great shows, was canceled too soon. Now, it's returned. IFC will begin airing reruns of the Judd Apatow-produced Emmy-winning series about '80s suburban high school life starting Fri., Jul. 2 at 11PM ET, with encores 10PM Sundays and 11PM Mondays, according to the network.
IFC will also run the Apatow-helmed college comedy 'Undeclared' in the fall.
The two series helped launch the careers of a multitude of today's stars, including James Franco, Seth Rogen and Jason Segel, from 'Freaks and Geeks,' and Jay Baruchel and Jenna Fischer, from 'Undeclared.'
'Freaks and Geeks' originally ran on NBC in the 1999-2000 season but was canceled after one season. The network did bring the series back for the final six episodes in the summer of 2000, and reruns aired on the Fox Family Channel. While original episodes ran for only a single season, it was enough to get the show a spot on TIME magazine's 100 Greatest Shows of All Time list in 2007 and a place in the hearts and funny bones of many viewers.
'Undeclared,' which also featured Rogen and Segel, ran for 17 episodes on Fox during the 2001-2002 season.
IFC also airs reruns of the quirky TV comedy 'Arrested Development' on Sunday nights.
"These acquisitions help further solidify IFC as the destination for programming that shares an off-kilter sensibility with its audience, particularly within the comedy genre,'' said IFC exec VP and general manager Jennifer Caserta to the Hollywood Reporter. "Judd Apatow is a comedic genius with a loyal fan base of young men. This same audience comes to IFC for new and rescued shows they can't find anywhere else.''
Both series are available on DVD.
