Kyle Bornheimer Replacing Kyle Howard in NBC's 'Perfect Couples'

by Kim Potts, posted Jul 2nd 2010 10:00AM
Kyle BornheimerIt's a Kyle for a Kyle: 'Worst Week' star Kyle Bornheimer, last seen in the short-lived Alyssa Milano ABC flop 'Romantically Challenged,' has replaced 'My Boys' star Kyle Howard in NBC's midseason comedy 'Perfect Couples.'

Deadline reports that Bornheimer, who also guest starred in the second season premiere of USA's 'Royal Pains' last month, took over for Howard, who was cast in second position pending the future of 'My Boys.' The TBS comedy kicks off its fourth season on July 25, but hasn't been renewed yet for a fifth season.
Bornheimer's role in 'Perfect Couples': Dave, the stable, married man amongst his group of couple friends. He's married to Julia ('FlashForward' star Christine Woods), who's often frustrated by his relationship with his needy BFF Vance ('Quarterlife' and '100 Questions' star David Walton). Vance is dating Amy ('It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's' Mary Elizabeth Ellis), with whom he shares a volatile, sexually-charged relationship, while the third couple is Rex ('Worst Week's' Hayes MacArthur) and Leigh ('Attack of the Show!' star Olivia Munn), an uptight pair who think they have the perfect relationship.

Bornheimer, meanwhile, has been a frequent primetime presence for the last few years, as the networks have groomed him as a breakout star. His resume includes appearances on everything from 'Weeds,' 'Will & Grace' and 'Breaking Bad' to 'Chuck,' 'Party Down' and 'How I Met Your Mother.'

As for Howard, who's been in the headlines recently as much for his personal life (he's dating former 'Hills' star Lauren Conrad) as for his career, he'll continue his role as 'My Boys' sportswriter Bobby in the show's new season, and he becomes the second 'Boys' star to lose out on an NBC series role because of a commitment to the TBS show.

'My Boys' star Jordana Spiro, who plays sportswriter (and Bobby's girlfriend) PJ, will be replaced in the NBC romantic anthology series 'Love Bites.' 'Bites,' from 'Sex and the City' writer Cindy Chupack and starring 'Ugly Betty's' Becki Newton, has been pushed to midseason, partly because Spiro had to leave the cast, partly because Chupack has dropped out as showrunner (but will continue as a writer) and partly because Newton, who plays a virgin in the pilot, is now pregnant.

"Everyone at the network loves 'Love Bites,' but for a number of reasons, it now makes sense to showcase the comedic anthology series a little later in the new season," NBC exec Mitch Metcalf said.

The Thursday at 10PM timeslot 'Love Bites' had claimed will now be filled with a new, non-celebrity season of Donald Trump's 'The Apprentice.'

Replacing one actor with another with same first names. Gee, hasn't that been done before (Dick Sargent replacing Dick York on "Bewitched")?

wow...that cast just sounds awful. i've liked the time Bornheimer's popped up elsewhere, but it seems like every series he's in as an actual cast member just turns out to be awful. Worst Week was aptly titled, Romantically Challenged had a lot more challenges going for it than just that...and (wait for it, i'm building a theme here) from the look of this cast, Perfect Couples will be anything but. :p honestly, NBC...if the Daily Show can't convince me Olivia Munn is funny, what makes you think you'll have more luck?
