Jake vs. Vienna: Details of the Latest 'Bachelor' Break-Up
He said, she said ... and then he said some more, she said some more. Recently split 'Bachelor' couple Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi appeared in a special interview on last night's 'Bachelorette' episode to tell their sides of the break-up -- which has made headlines in the tabloids.
Girardi accused her former fiance of "emotional abuse," while the 32-year-old pilot retorted that their relationship lacked intimacy because she continually undermined and "emasculated" him.
"There's no respect for me," he said.
"He treated me like a child," she said.
A grave host Chris Harrison asked Girardi why she sold her story to the tabloids, but the 23-year-old marketing rep replied that Pavelka was a "fame whore" who would've done the same thing first.
"Our relationship has been public. No matter how we broke up, this was going to have to happen," she said. "The world was going to want to know what happened, we were going to be doing interviews. I know Jake; I know as soon as we broke up, he was going to run to a media outlet and tell his side of the story. i wanted to make sure i had a voice also. I want people to know that I did try in this relationship ... I loved him and I thought it would be different."
To this, Pavelka said, "I'm so mad at you. I'm so disgusted with you."
Throughout the interview, Girardi painted Pavelka as unfeeling and distant. "I was in a relationship with someone who was just emotionally and physically not there with me," she said. "I don't think any woman would stay in a relationship with a guy who she has to ask to be kissed."
She also alleged he was choosing fame over her. Pavelka has been pursuing an acting career; after his appearance on the recent season of 'Dancing With the Stars,' he booked a guest starring role on 'Drop Dead Diva.'
"My impression was that you were a pilot and we were going to go back to Florida and Dallas and live a normal life," Girardi told him. "And all of sudden we were in L.A. and you were pursuing a career in acting."
To this, Pavelka replied: "At least I was pursuing a career in something."
The two also engaged in a rancorous back-and-forth about whether Girardi cheated on Pavelka; who broke up with whom, and when; whether Pavelka cared about her family and dog; and the various domestic arguments they got into over room measurements and GPS navigation.
Near the end of the interview, Harrison asked Girardi if she had anything to apologize for. "I am sorry I went about it the way I did," she told Pavelka, "but I know you and I knew you would do it if I didn't."
But when Pavelka sternly admonished her again for interrupting him, Girardi burst into tears and ran off camera. Her sobbing voice could be heard saying, "He's so mean."
