Javier Bardem to Play Rock Star on 'Glee'?

It's been reported that Oscar winner Javier Bardem may have the chance to guest star on the second season of 'Glee.'

According to the Ausiello Files, Bardem may appear in the upcoming season as a rock star who befriends Artie (Kevin McHale). Apparently the deal was done after Bardem pitched the idea to 'Glee' supremo Ryan Murphy when they worked on the movie 'Eat, Pray, Love.' Bardem joked, "We're going to rock the house ... We're going to do some heavy metal -- Spanish heavy metal, which is the worst."

Just how Spanish heavy metal will fit into the show is anyone's guess, but in season 1, the eclectic soundtrack featured cover versions of everything from Judy Garland to Kiss, Miley Cyrus to Parliament, and Lady GaGa to Rick Springfield.

Casting Bardem is a coup for 'Glee,' which debuted on Fox in May 2009. The musical comedy-drama follows optimistic high school Spanish teacher Will Schuester as he tries to revive the fortunes of the school's glee club. Each episode features a number of musical numbers with the show's stars and an expanding roster of ever-more-famous guest stars.

Season 1 featured guest appearances by Broadway stars including Idina Menzel, Victor Garber and Kristin Chenoweth. Singers Olivia Newton John and Josh Groban played themselves, and Eve dropped in for a couple of episodes playing a rival school's show choir director.

Back in May Fox announced that it had renewed the show for a third season, and in June, the network announced the launch of a huge range of 'Glee'-themed merchandise ahead of the show's second season. However, it hasn't all been smooth sailing: Last month Fox canceled its planned 'Glee' reality series.

Although Bardem is best known for his roles in serious dramas, and he won an Oscar playing a sociopathic hitman in 'No Country for Old Men,' he's got plenty of experience in comedies like 'Jamón, jamón' and 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona.' He was reportedly considered for the role of Guido Contini in the musical 'Nine,' but the part went to Daniel Day-Lewis. There's been no word if Bardem's girlfriend, Penélope Cruz, will join him in the 'Glee' cast.

The second season of 'Glee' is due to air on Fox in the fall.
