Spoilers Anonymous In-Depth: 'Eureka'
This is Spoilers Anonymous In-Depth, a weekly column here at TV Squad where we discuss and give our two cents about recently released spoilers and how they may affect the storylines, shows and fans. This in-depth version of the column goes hand in hand with our weekly spoilers column in which we supply you with the dirt on some of the more popular shows on the air. This week, we discuss spoilers recently released for the upcoming season of 'Eureka.'
- 'Battlestar Galactica's' James Callis joins the cast as Dr. Grant, a former town resident who returns to (possibly) reignite an old romance with Allison that turns life in Eureka upside down.
James Callis is welcome to join any show I watch, even if it's to put a wedge for a while between two of my favorite characters. As Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello pointed out a few days ago, if we analyze the season 4 poster, it does look like Dr. Grant will be the focal point of the season. Just look at how everyone is looking at him, as if he's in the process of explaining some very secretive project.
The fact that these six characters are meeting outside Global Dynamics adds to the secrecy of the scene. Could they be talking about what happened to disrupt the town?
- "[This season] preserves the characters and preserves the relationships, but everything else is turned on its head in the town, and they're not going to fix it," revealed [Colin] Ferguson of season 4.
Any show entering its fourth season must do something big to freshen itself up a bit and keep fans watching and on the edge of their couch. Not only am I happy with the addition of James Callis, but I'm also welcoming this big event, as it'll mean fresh situations for the characters to be in.
Usually, the Eureka folks try to fix everything and anything they mess up. I'm extremely curious at what will happen such that they decide not to fix it. Could fixing it cause more harm than good? How will they cope with not fixing it? Guilt? Will a tiny group decide after a while to fix it? How? When? Why? Who? Where? Oh, the questions are killing me!!!
- The season premiere will feature another Jack and Allison time-travel hookup, similar to the one in the first season finale. This time, however, they will both remember their encounter -- but, as usual, circumstances conspire against them. Everyone else will be part of their blast from the past.
Could the time-travelling mentioned in this spoiler be said "it" event? If everyone else will be part of their blast from the past, could it mean that the entire town will travel in time and see themselves in other settings and with different people? Imagine the possibilities!
If everyone remembers their time-travelling, it means that some characters could try to make this alternate reality come true or work so that it doesn't happen. This would be similar to what we've seen on ABC's 'Flashforward,' where characters saw about two minutes of their future. Some tried their best not to make it happen (especially those who saw nothing, hence were more than likely dead), while others took leaps of faith to see their future unfold (like those who ended up happy). If 'Eureka' goes 'Flashforward' on us, I won't be mad, as the 'Eureka' characters are so unique that their take on the possibilities will be quite different and entertaining.
Tying up all spoilers together, could it be that Dr. Grant comes back to Eureka, and his first experiment goes awry and causes everyone to time-travel? Then, the gang seen in the poster reunite,s and decides not to fix it as it would cause more chaos than good?
All these questions are making me super-eager to watch the premiere. Is it July 9 yet?
The show's fourth season premieres on July 9 on SyFy.
