Mike Judge Working on 'Beavis & Butt-Head' Revival?

by Scott Harris, posted Jul 7th 2010 12:00PM
Back before Mike Judge filmed the cult classic workplace comedy 'Office Space' and hit it big with the beloved Fox animated staple 'King of the Hill,' the director rose to fame alongside two of the cultural icons of the 1990's, Beavis & Butt-Head. Well, don't look now, but it's time to break your flannel wardrobe out of storage, because it appears America's favorite idiots may be about to return.

Yes, you read that right: According to Examiner, Judge is currently hard at work fleshing out a whopping 30 new episodes of 'Beavis & Butt-Head' with the intent of bringing the MTV series back to prime time. The series, which features Judge as the voices of both title characters, would retain its "original ghetto-tech aesthetic," but feature modern music videos, which most would agree are more than ripe for some intense sardonic mockery.

Of course, there's one fairly large catch to the return of 'Beavis & Butt-Head,' which is the fact that MTV hasn't actually given the greenlight to the series. Still, while that would seem to be a major step in the process, the lack of a deal apparently isn't stopping Judge from proceeding with his reboot, meaning that should MTV pass, it's possible the series could end up on a different network or perhaps even online.

For those who may be too young or refined to remember, 'Beavis & Butt-Head' caused a national uproar during its brief but influential run from 1993-1997, with the show being accused of everything from coarsening national discourse to causing numerous copycat crimes up to and including murder. Despite -- or perhaps because of -- those controversies, the show became wildly popular, eventually spawning the big screen hit 'Beavis & Butt-Head Do America,' which raked in an impressive $63 million at the box office.

So can Judge recapture 'Beavis & Butt-Head's glory days? Or has the world passed The Great Cornholio by? Only time will tell. For now, though, here's a reminder of what America has been missing for the past decade:

Mike Judge would be wise to follow the "Family Guy example" and keep things the same...including the same, albeit Beavis-&-Butthead-style, social commentary such as found in Idiocracy and Office Space.

Judge was really tuned into the pulse, the Zeitgeist, of common sense in those movies as well as in a some episodes of Beavis & Butthead.

Oh Boy. What could be BETTER news. bring the BOYS back. there is so much to make fun of since the BOYS left the air with a whimper (TONED DOWN by MTV and several VERY pissed off rockers lol). Lets see--theres britney, Paris, Miley, The Jonas Brothers...wait-t-heres Jersey Shore, Jon and kate, The View..I think there is enough GARBAGE now on TV to keep the BOYS on the air ..forever!! Long live B&B

Oh Boy...B&B to return. It's about time. Just imagine all the CRAP on TV they can make fun of now...There couldn't be a better time. Remember the BOYS were retired before PAris, before Lindsay even before anyone heard the NAME "BRITNEY".

i would rather watch B&B than some of the reality shows out there. reality shows have become overkill. there are just too many of them and most of them are rediculous. bring back this show and bring back more sitcoms
