Emmy's Biggest Beneficiary: Betty White

Betty White at the 2010 Screen Actors Guild AwardsBetty White's 2010 victory lap continues with her domination of this morning's Emmy nods. The 88-year-old comedy legend is mentioned eight times in the list of 2010 Emmy nominations, mostly for her triumphant appearance in May as a first-time guest host of 'Saturday Night Live.'

One of the mentions is a nomination for White herself, as her hosting gig earned her a nod for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series. It's the 17th nomination White has earned since 1951. A victory at this August's Emmy ceremony would be her fifth win.

White's 'SNL' episode earned six additional nominations, for directing, writing, art direction, lighting direction, hairstyling and makeup. Her show was responsible for seven of the sketch comedy series' 12 nominations this year. Thanks in part to White, 'SNL' is now the most nominated show in Emmy history, since this year's nods bring its total to 126, two more than 'ER.'

Betty White in Snickers ad 'Game'White's eighth mention among the nominations is the citation for Outstanding Commercial for 'Game,' the Snickers ad that was the talk of this year's Super Bowl. The ad showed White and fellow octogenarian TV icon Abe Vigoda getting tackled during a muddy football game.

2010 has been a banner year for the Golden Girl, starting with a lifetime achievement prize at the Screen Actors Guild Awards and continuing with the Super Bowl spot, the successful online campaign to land her the 'SNL' hosting gig, numerous appearances on late-night talk shows, a guest spot on 'The Middle' as a vindictive librarian, and a new day job as a co-star of TV Land's sitcom 'Hot in Cleveland,' which this week earned a second season order after just five episodes had aired.

Just think, she could have been on Emmy's list nine times if there were a prize for Best Facebook Petition.
