'Hot in Cleveland' Renewed for Second Season

Betty White2010 is undoubtedly Betty White's year -- 'SNL,' Snickers, an Emmy nomination, and now, a second season for her freshman comedy 'Hot in Cleveland.'

According to the Hollywood Reporter, TV Land has ordered 20 episodes for the sitcom's sophomore season -- double the amount of its debut offering. Having only been on the air since June, the comedy has already made a significant impact, debuting with 4.8 million viewers -- which TV Land touts as the most-watched sitcom telecast in cable TV history.
"We are so excited that 'Hot in Cleveland' was embraced by viewers in such a big way," enthused TV Land president Larry W. Jones. "We absolutely love the show and can't wait to see what hilarious new experiences these characters will encounter."

For a while, White's second season involvement was in question, after the 'Golden Girls' alum apparently expressed reservations about diving into another full-time series commitment. But since the show's success is probably largely dependent on the presence of America's oldest sweetheart, we can't see 'Hot' going on without her.

Following the show's stunning debut, Endemol secured the rights for global distribution, and though ratings have dipped a little since the premiere, TV Land obviously believe that the sitcom has legs.

'Hot in Cleveland' stars Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick, as three best friends who move to start a new life in Cleveland; White plays the feisty caretaker of the house they rent. The second season is expected to debut in Jan 2011.
