Should Air Band Airpocalypse Be on 'America's Got Talent'? (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Jul 8th 2010 6:15AM
Should Air Band Airpocalypse Be on 'America's Got Talent'?Is playing air guitar a valid talent? How about lip syncing? Those were the deep questions the judges of 'America's Got Talent' (Wed., 9PM ET on NBC) were forced to address with the band Airpocalypse.

After a performance that appeared to leave some in the audience stunned into bemused silence, the band received the judges' critique with good humor, laughing when Howie Mandel said, "We can air judge you," and proceeded to mouth comments to Sharon Osbourne.

The final decision? Given that Airpocalypse was judged not as a band but as an "entertaining comedy act," they made it into the Top 48. Do you agree with the judges' verdict?

I agree that the air band is bull crap. There is alot or real talent that was sent home. As for as the Vets go, no not pity admiration for putting an act together and having the courage to go in front of a large audience and perform. Carlos should have stayed he is great.

Are you people all dumb? Those 'air rocker's' referred to themselves as a 'real band' so for you to say that they made it as a comedy group is going against how they view themselves... there is no way that jumping around pretending to play an instrument is better than any of the violinist... And heck no I couldn't watch that show for an hour, but I could see an orchestra for an hour... those people are actually talented... hence the name of the show... America's Got Talent... not America's Got Mildly Entertaining Acts That Will Get The Show To Stir Up Controversy... Giving 1,000,000 dollars to them would be dumb... the judges know their not gonna win so they shouldnt have put them through

Good thing this is on 'entertainment' and not on pity votes. Would you really be more entertained seeing the homeless or Haiti acts (which for the record, they weren't THAT great) at a Vegas show or have fun watching Airpocalypse at an air concert? They are ALL talented in some way, some maybe more than others. The kid with the bike is mad talented, but would I (you) want to watch that for an hour? Talent doesn't necessarily equal entertaining. Britney Spears isn't necessarily a great or even good singer but she is a great entertainer and there's value in that. These guys aren't a "band" and it isn't up to them how the show categorizes them. And a musician myself, I don't get how other musicians are getting so offended with their act. They aren't trying to be musicians, they are trying to entertain. And for me, I love seeing these guys. And of all the acts this season, positive or negative, Airpocalypse is getting the most chatter. Go air rockers!!!

I am upset that this group went on when more deserving acts went home. I understand what a previous poster said about have acts from different catagories. But let's be realistic. Money talks. They put on the acts that will bring in more viewers allowing them to charge more for commercial time. What other excuse would they have for keeping the terrible impressionist who was even worse at acting out a man getting ready in the morning. That was the last straw. He'll be good tv but a Vegas act????? That was the biggest travesty.

Well, there is 48 acts people. And with the amount of talent within this 48 is a true talent worthy of a Vegas Headline. Whats the fuss, I liked the Sleight Of Hand Magician more than any other Magician but you cant send all of one catagory. In the mist of selecting a true Vegas act there has to be an Entertainmanet Value since no one catagory of one kind of act is everyones faviorte! Thats the process of the show!

Sheesh, people, Airpocalypse is a comedy group -- not a band group. The hand whistler was a novelty act. Some of the negative responses I have read just prove that many people don't read. READ up on the categories, and READ the rules! This is NOT American Idol. I think the judges made a couple of choices I never would have made; but that's show biz. On the whole, I think they made good choices in accordance with the show's guidelines.

It's a total shame that American Idol producers have reuied the show totally. Sending such crap as an old lady hand whistler and an air band and a old lady who can't sing a note to the top 48 is ludicrus. The the show veiws more sidleline shots than the actual talent. The show no longer interests me only riles me up.

I agree with Beth! Not only the homeless vets, but Carlos Aponte and the boy with the kite would have been better choices. How could they choose the older woman yodeler who went on for ten minutes or the phony magician. The air band had not talent, did not spend years learning to play and finally, should have been in the entertainment category if that's how they were judged, not with other bands. Sorry about Michael Grasso, magician. Very disappointing choices. Another bad choice was the Jewel knockoff who sounded like a wounded kitten.

Really? Were the homeless vets and even the group from Haiti THAT entertaining? Are we voting for their "story" which let's face it would be a pity story or the entertainment value and how they entertain? I'm not knocking anyone's opinion, but I think people that are ripping certain acts aren't looking at it the right way. This should isn't about who has mastered a talent otherwise there would be three acts up there. At the end of the day, are these acts entertaining? If you can honestly say that you weren't more entertained by Airpocalypse, not if they're more talented, than the vets or Haitians then I stand corrected. Even the singing groups that were making fun of them before they went on where all laughing and entertained by them. And that's the point of this.
