Spoilers Anonymous In-Depth: 'Dexter'

Spoilers Anonymous DexterThis is Spoilers Anonymous In-Depth, a weekly column here at TV Squad where we discuss and give our two cents about recently released spoilers and how they may affect the storylines, shows and fans. This in-depth version of the column goes hand in hand with our weekly spoilers column in which we supply you with the dirt on some of the more popular shows on the air.

This week, we discuss spoilers recently released for the upcoming season of 'Dexter.'

Julia Stiles will appear in 10 episodes as a mysterious woman who forms a unique relationship with Dexter. Jonny Lee Miller will appear in six episodes as a character who will somehow be involved with Stiles' character.

When I heard about Stiles getting cast on the show, my first reaction was: huh? How could the star of so many teen movies be suitable for such a dark show as 'Dexter' is? Then, I recalled her work on the 'Bourne' movies alongside Matt Damon and that changed my reaction to her joining the show. In 'Bourne,' even if it probably wasn't her best acting, Stiles proved that she could do more than be a teen actress; she could be mysterious, do drama and be part of action-packed sequences. I'm now looking forward to see her mysterious character unfold on 'Dexter'; Stiles' character may not be the female Dexter, but she has the looks to be the girl-next-door hiding quite a dark side.

As a fan of canceled 'Eli Stone,' I'm welcoming the addition of Jonny Lee Miller on the show. He certainly has the necessary skills to play deep and dark complex characters. Sadly, not much is known about his role yet. Will he turn out to be Julia Stiles' ex who Dexter will end up killing?

Which type of characters do you foresee Stiles and Miller playing? How do you think their characters are linked to one another?

Rita's presence will be felt throughout the season. Julie Benz will reprise her role of Rita for the season premiere.

Rita has been a pivotal person in Dexter's live. She is the one, along with her kids, who made him a bit more ... normal. It'll be quite interesting to see Dexter juggle being a single parent, even if he'll get help from Deb and nannies, while working and going on his secret "missions." Being a single parent will surely be challenging fox Dexter but it will more than likely make his "missions" as difficult to finish properly as during the first weeks after Harrison was born. Will it mean Dexter will have to be more choosy as whom he'll kill, when and how? Will the toll of juggling being a single father, work, secret work and going back to the dating life make Dexter slip during one again during one of his killings, thus putting him in jeopardy of being found? Maybe even by one of his older kids or maybe Deb, who is said to be moving in with him to help out?

It will be a delight to see Julie Benz back, even for one episode, as it was confirmed she would not be a ghost nor return from the dead. This more than likely means that we will see flashbacks to unseen scenes between Dexter and Rita to highlight what they have been going through as a couple prior to Rita's death.

What are you looking forward this coming season on Dexter?

Dexter is one of my favorites, I am so glad that Michael Hall is well enough to become Dexter again.

I think Dexter wanted Rita's kindness to help him normalize, but she got herself pregnant and then forced him into the "family life" in the Burbs. That was so wrong and against Dexter's character. The pretense to be a husband was taxing enough. Then, add on father and barbecue neighbor, too much.

I look forward to every season of Dexter to the point where anything less than "MY" full 50 minutes every Sunday night, makes me feel cheated. With every season, I wonder how will next season top this one, and every year they do, and hopefully will continue to do for years to come. I was shocked as Hell to see Rita's demise, and truth be told, I screamed "NO you're not supposed to die" when I saw it. All the villans have been incredible, and one of the most incredible scenes was when he killed his brother. The show is just plain awsome.

I would of liked to have seen Rita come back as a balance to Dexter's need of having Harry over his shoulder. Harry always pressuring him to be careful but to continue to feed Dex's hunger, but to have her as a presence in his imagination looking down on his dark passenger. Maybe one day ultimatly succumbing to one while mentally killing the other.
