Laura Vandervoort Flies Back to 'Smallville' for Final Season

Clark Kent won't be the only fledgling superhero zipping around 'Smallville' this year. Laura Vandervoort has singed to reprise her role as Clark's super-powered cousin Kara, aka Supergirl, on the CW series' upcoming final season. The 'V' star will head back to 'Smallville' for one episode only, the Ausiello Files reports. Her return is tentatively scheduled to air in October, a few weeks after the Sept. 24 season premiere.
Vandervoort left the show in season 7 along with series vets Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor) and Kristen Kreuk (Lana Lang). She guest starred in a season 8 episode in which Clark (Tom Welling) helped her escape from the deadly Phantom Zone, but she flew away at the end of the episode, presumably to start her own superhero adventures.
Rumors of a 'Supergirl' spinoff surfaced following Vandervoort's exit, but they quickly died after she joined 'V.'
Vandervoort isn't the only 'Smallville' alum returning to the show next season. Former series star John Schneider, who played Clark's pops Jonathan Kent, is signed to appear in the season premiere and possibly in another episode.
Time will tell if fan favorite Rosenbaum or Kreuk will return to the show next season for a final hurrah.
