Christiane AmanpourChristiane Amanpour's long-awaited arrival at ABC has finally been nailed down: According to Variety, 'This Week with Christiane Amanpour' will officially debut Sun., Aug. 1.

The CNN veteran was tapped in March to replace George Stephanopoulos on ABC News' 'This Week.' According to the report, the August start date will allow Amanpour some time to get comfortable in the hosting seat before the midterm elections heat up. Jake Tapper has hosted the program in the interim.

"I leave CNN with the UTMOST respect, love and admiration for the company and everyone who works here," Amanpour said in a statement from March 2010. "This has been my family and shared endeavor for the past 27 years and I am forever grateful and proud of all that we have accomplished."

Amanpour, a Peabody Award-winning journalist, was CNN's chief international correspondent for eight years, but worked with CNN for a total of 27 years before she announced her move over to ABC.

On CNN, the journalist hosted 'Amanpour,' an interview program that ended in April 2010.

Prior to joining ABC, Amanpour also reported for CBS's '60 Minutes,' as a special contributor, it was there where she won a Peabody. In addition to that award, Amanpour has nine Emmys for news and documentary work and several honorary doctorates for her journalistic work.

As Jake Tapper did such a bang-up job on This Week, I was surprised he'll be leaving. Thanks, Jake. Now for Amanpour...WOW! What a cracker-jack reporter. Total professionalism. Not having cable, I saw her infrequently on PBS and she always left me wanting to know more. She's fabulous. Like Jake, I don't think she'll let many folks 'squirm' out of answering her questions. At least we still have Jake still reporting for ABC. Best of both worlds!

Any word on whether George Will is sticking around? He's really been the only reason to watch This Week since it was in David Brinkley's hands...
