There never seem to be enough hours in a day to get everything done, right? Now imagine trying to create and open a successful restaurant in just 24 short hours. That's the premise behind Food Network's newest reality show, '24 Hour Restaurant Battle' (premieres Sun., July 18, 10PM ET) , in which two competing teams come up with a concept, decor scheme and menu all in one day to open their doors to actual diners. A panel of restaurant experts will judge their work and award the winning team seed money to start their dream business.
The show is hosted by New York chef/restaurateur Scott Conant, and among the guest judges are chefs Marcus Samuelsson and Geoffrey Zakarian and restaurateur Drew Nieporent.
In the sneak peek premiere episode, two brothers square off against a mother/daughter team. Siblings Mookie Hicks and Saoul Vanderpool go for a comforting soul food theme, while Rachel Goldman Nason and Jane Pofcher envision a chic small plates restaurant. The show settles into its normal, Wed. 10PM ET timeslot on July 21 with a episode featuring two teams in a Italian food showdown.
Our friends at PopEater spoke to Conant about the show at a delicious feast that he hosted at his eatery, Faustina. Check out what he had to say.
