'Big Brother 12' - Live Eviction #1, HoH #2 Recap

by Jackie Schnoop, posted Jul 16th 2010 12:15AM
The Saboteur visited the houseguests once again(S12E04) Tonight was the big night -- the first eviction from the 'Big Brother 12' house. Not only that, but the eagerly awaited reveal of the saboteur, too. Plus, there's the Head of Household competition. Did I mention that this is all live?

If you combine 'BB' hamsters, Julie Chen, a live audience and a slew of things that have to get done, does it all go like planned? Well, kind of, sort of. The show finished up on time with the saboteur revealed, the eviction completed and a new Head of Household along with some other tidbits thrown in. But that doesn't necessarily mean all went as planned by production.

Call me jaded. I realize I watch the live feeds and have more background than the average person solely watching the episodes on television. But even without my "inside the house" knowledge, I've gotten so I can tell by the editing what's going to happen with the eviction. Whenever they put such a spin on it towards one person gaining favor with the house hamsters, you know that's the person who's going to get evicted! Must they be so blatant? C'mon, CBS. Mix it up, leave us confused until the actual vote!

So they work it up that Annie seems to be having success in her campaign to stay in the house. Actually, she makes good points. If they leave the "Blinded Me With Science" power couple (Rachel and Brendon) in the house, it will probably come back to bite them in the butt. (And, it surely does.) It would be better strategy on at least the Brigade's part to get rid of Rachel and break up the pair. Hamsters aren't known for their common sense.

Then came the big reveal. Shocker! Guess who's the saboteur? Why, it's Annie, the one most likely to be voted out even though the editing is trying to make things look otherwise. So, production staff ... suppose you spent all kinds of thought and energy coming up with a twist which, in the first place, only lasts five weeks of a 10 week show? And then, your choice of participants blew it in the first week? What are you going to do now? We want to know!

When it came time for the speeches, there definitely was some vitriol in Annie's words. But again, other than her personal jabs at Brendon, she made good points. The smarter move for the entire house would be to break up Rachel and Brendon. It could be a Jeff/Jordan situation all over again. Rachel's speech was laughable -- "I love you, great time, you're all great, such fun, great, great." She knew she had it in the bag. Sure enough, the vote was unanimous for Annie to go.

In her talk with Julie, she was more like the annoying Annie who talks a mile a minute and never shuts up. While she kept fairly civil, all she did was restate her entire campaign to stay in the house. She was shocked that Kathy was the choice of the fans for the saboteur. Her civility was thrown out the window once she watched the goodbye messages. Not surprisingly, Britney's message was all catty and based mostly on her clothes. Ragan was the only one who mentioned that he thought she could be the saboteur. Most were sweet, including Brendon's goodbye. But once she heard Rachel accusing her of trying to get between her and her man (what, of nine days?), it all hit the fan and Psycho Annie came out spewing "sloppy seconds" because Brendon was interested in her first. She claims she declined his romantic interest. Meow!

Next up was that which bites a Brigade in the butt -- the Head of Household competition. It was the done-before "Majority Rules" without any surprising answers for me. Since they didn't know Matt is such a genius (just ask him), they said they'd cheat off of Ragan's paper. Well, Ragan is a college professor, so they would do alright. I wouldn't want Andrew or Lane packing my parachute. Everyone knows you pack your own parachute!

As the field of hamsters dwindled, it got down to three girls -- Monet, Britney and Rachel. Yep, we're talking Rachel who could have been evicted if they were actually playing the game and thinking ahead! In the tie, Rachel proved her inability with chemistry, which is the science of her life outside of showmances with physicists. They had to guess how many gallons of caramel were used in the Have/Have Not comp. I sat at home and thought, "A lot, probably a couple hundred." Britney decided 41, Rachel guessed 80 and Money went overboard with 725 gallons. It was 250. Rachel was closest without going over. But I would think a chemist would have a vague clue and be somewhat near the figure. Rachel is the new Head of Household. Annie is probably thrilled with it all. Take that, hamsters!

Supposedly, beside hiding noise-making devices throughout the house, Annie did one more act of sabotage before she left the house. Time will tell. Since the saboteur Annie lied in the most recent message to the house -- "I've escaped eviction this week." -- I presume the "lifelong friends" was probably a lie as well. The best way to sabotage the game is to mess with their little hamster minds.

What do you think they'll do in lieu of a twist? Recruit a second saboteur? Choose an "America's Player Saboteur"? You know they have to have a twist on the show or it's just not 'Big Brother.'

Wow, BB producers must really be killing themselves right now. How did the big twist they planned end up crumbling in just one week? For a show with producers as notorious as BB, they really screwed up this one. Hopefully (and that means undoubtedly), they have a lot more twists up their sleeves this season..but, man, oh man, what a disaster: http://www.thesmogger.com/2010/07/16/oh-brother-week-2/

I've read on Zap2It.com that all BB houseguests are sequestered this season and that media has to do email interviews with the evicted houseguests. Looks like one of the twists will be to reintroduce someone in the show in the few weeks. Afterall, since one houseguest backed out at the last second, the show would need to add someone back in to have evictions every week, no? Then again, they could do without that double eviction week near the end.

They need another sab, pick another house guest, let the viewers vote for who they choose to be the new sab, something! I think it's a bad idea to tell anyone but the new sab who the original sab was, keep them guessing and paranoid! (Just a little note, Rachel was off by 250 gallons, the total amount was 330 gallons)

Can anyone explain why Sopranos-wannabe Enzo calls himself the "Meow Meow"?

And even his goodbye message to Annie, Hayden is still SCREAMING in the diary room.

Hayden's bangs = the second saboteur

AG should pay attention to the viewers and implement some of their suggestions! Clearly the saboteur plan was a dud.

Oops, looks like I stacked the deck against Hayden and listed him twice in the poll. My apologies!

the Big Brother saboteur = a BIG flop
the saboteur lied about escaping the block as Annie didn't escape anything so the whole life long friends being in the house was most likely a lie
what's Alison Grodner to do now ?
well Annie and the next evictees will be put in
sequester and we will get to vote one of them
back into the house after all we need a double eviction week

LOL Big Brother FAIL! I was actually intrigued by how the saboteur was going to screw things up. BB producers did a better job keeping Jeff in the game last year.

I was leaning toward Annie but then thought Big Brother wouldn't let someone evict their own creation in the first week. The cadence of the saboteur's speech, even with the voice distortion, sounded like Annie.

Who knew Rachel was such a jealous jackass?
I'm also surprised by Britney, I thought she would be a lot sweeter and a lot less Mean Girl.
