For those who keep track of the show, 'Chuck' is likely going to have the main character's mother as a recurring guest on the show (and quite possibly the Big Bad of the season, but that would be a little obvious). There's been no definitive word on who will be cast in this role for the upcoming year. Hell, they may even keep the character in the shadows and hold off casting the part for a little while.

But, in the event they wanted to start the season with Chuck's Mom making an appearance, allow me to offer a few suggestions on possible actresses to cast in the role. These are in no particular order except for the last one.

5. Gina Gershon. Let's face it, whomever is cast as Chuck's mother will be a total MILF (or quite possibly a GILF). Gina Gershon used to be quite the sexpot and still looks like she could get away with that particular sort of role. This would be of particular interest because it could mean that the relationship that existed between Stephen Bartowski and Mary Elizabeth Bartowski could mirror that of Chuck and Sarah.

4. Lynda Carter. If you're a woman involved in the spy world for over 20 years, you'd better be Wonder Woman. 'Chuck' has had enough geek references throughout its run to make this choice quite ironic, particularly since Chuck's father was the star of 'Quantum Leap' and 'Star Trek: Enterprise.' Admittedly, it would have to be explained how Lynda Carter could fall for such a nebbishy guy, but again it would mirror the Chuck/Sarah relationship.

3. Lena Olin. OK, this is totally typecasting. She already played a similar role in 'Alias,' but it does make her well-suited for the part. I don't see Mary Elizabeth Bartowski as that different from Irina Derevko (although maybe not a Russian spy) but she and the writers may surprise everyone.

2. Mary McDonnell. She was the President of the Twelve Colonies in the revamped 'Battlestar Galactica' and she sure as shoot could take on whatever the spy world could throw at her. She even has a disarming smile that could be used as a weapon of mass distraction before taking down twenty enemy agents. And to top it off, Sarah Lancaster, who plays Chuck's sister Ellie, looks a little like her. It wouldn't be that huge a leap to imagine McDonnell as her mother.

1. Kate Jackson. Admittedly, I didn't think of this one as an option until author Peter David mentioned it on his blog. In thinking about it, it's the ultimate in ironic casting. Kate Jackson was one of 'Charlie's Angels.' Moreover, she was the smart one. Get it? Charlie is another name for Chuck and Chuck is smart. Also, Bruce Boxleitner, who plays Captain Awesome's father, was her co-star in the series 'Scarecrow and Mrs. King' which was another series about a regular person who enters the life of a spy (although the gender roles were reversed from 'Chuck'). Thus, it would make a meeting of the in-laws extra-awesome.

So those are my top five. The common factors are older, sexy and having geek cred. Who do you see as playing Chuck's Mom?
