'Sharktopus' Trailer: Part Shark, Part Octopus, All Awesome
He's big and bad and he like pretty girls in bikinis on the beach. No, we're not talking about Charles Atlas. It's 'Sharktopus,' and the trailer for the upcoming Syfy movie has been posted on the Hollywood Reporter's Live Feed. Sharktopus is part shark, part octopus, and darn it, he has a heart.
In the beginning of the trailer he saves a girl from being eaten by a real shark. Then some one in a laboratory flips a switch and Sharktopus is off on a rampage for the rest of trailer. Blame the Navy and the requisite evil scientist (Eric Roberts, how about that) who either created Sharktopus from scratch or tamed him -- we can't tell.
"The Navy said it wanted a killing machine and that's exactly what I gave them, but greatness comes at a price,'' says Roberts' mad scientist before a quick cut to an unsuspecting girl bungee jumping into the Sharktopus' mouth.
It's a wonderful thing, the fantasy world conjured up by CG animation and fake tentacles.
'Sharktopus,' produced by Syfy and B-movie legend Roger Corman, is the latest in the channel's campy creatures original movie programming. Interestingly, or maybe not so, the movies often feature mutant reptiles and fish: 'Dinocroc vs Supergator,' 'Mega Piranha,' 'Mega Snake' and 'Dinoshark.' Mammals need not apply. There's lot of buzz for the upcoming 'Mega Python vs. Gatoroid,' which also features a showdown between '80s music icons Deborah Gibson and Tiffany.
Judging by what we've seen, the Sharktopus would make mince meat out of both Mega Python and Gatoroid. Or chum, if you prefer.
