Penelope Cruz Refuses to Believe That She's Sexy (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Jul 19th 2010 12:35AM
Penelope Cruz Refuses to Believe That She's SexyOn '60 Minutes' (Sun., 7PM ET on CBS), famously beautiful actress Penelope Cruz confessed to an all-too-common worry: she doesn't think that she's "sexy." Interviewer Charlie Rose told Cruz that her sensuality was an essential part of her appeal. He also compared her to legendary bombshell Sophia Loren.

But Cruz denied the comparison. "I never felt, 'Oh, I think I look good,'" she said. "I always tend to be more in the insecure side."

Rose pressed the issue, calling her "beautiful" and sexy." "You know it's there," he said, referring to the effect that she has on men.

But Cruz said "No" three times in response to his accusations that she is -- in fact -- good-looking. Although she also admitted that she might never have allowed herself to enjoy her own appearance.

Wow. If even Penelope Cruz isn't confident about her looks -- then what hope is there for us mere mortals?

I watched this interview on "60 Minutes." I find it difficult to believe Cruz doesn't know she's great-looking and sexy. Speaking frankly, she's not that great of an actress -- if she was ordinary looking, would she have the career she now has? Not being mean, just honest. Cruz isn't the only one, of course; those blessed with good DNA are the ones Hollywood looks for, and there is nothing wrong with that. To say otherwise is dishonest.

Boo Hoo I'm so sorry for her! Really! There are PLENTY of young American actresses who would love to be in her place and who have the looks, drive, AND confidence in themselves to succeed, but just haven't gotten the breaks. If you don't think you are sexy or good looking enough, go home and let someone who does have a chance!

I never understood why Hollywood overlooked the fact that she is a homewrecker. She ends up sleeping with every man she co-stars with in every movie. Angelina did it once with Brad Pitt and everyone thought she was horrible. Penelope broke up Tom Cruise's family, no one said anything. I feel bad for her new husband. The marriage will only work if she never does another movie, or only do movies with the new husband.

This interview made me like her more. The fact that she doesn't let what people say go to her head unlike some other delusional celebrities.

In my opinion she doesn't look hot or that good looking. (Its the nose) And I think she knows this fact. Now she isn't disgusting looking or anything but she's not beautiful. What makes her pretty (inside & out)is the fact that she doesn't make herself seem more than what she really is. She knows the part of her appeal is the fact that she IS a celebrity and has money. Money makes anyone more attractive(men and women).

I have a good feeling that as a woman she knows a lot of men find anything with a pulse attractive and she knows what she looks like with or without makeup so other men opinion (besides her man) doesn't matter to her. Only what she herself thinks.

Congrats Cruz for being one of the rare Hollywood girls who keeps it real! You are now definitely one of my top favorite actresses.

When I was younger, I was probably considered attractive, but I was just never full of myself. That's really good, on one hand, because now that the "beauty" has faded, I'm able to live without it. Don't get me wrong, it's sad to see my breasts heading South, WAYYYY SOUTH, and I don't remember when I last saw my feet, but at 50-years-old, it's time. On the other hand, I wish I had played it up more when I was younger. Not been full of myself, mind you, but worn those sexy dresses and tried to "work it" once, at least take the chance.

Perhaps Penelope Cruz just isn't full of herself, but I'm glad she has the youth, the resources and the opportunity to play around with her beauty and sex appeal while she has it. Once it's gone, it's gone. But even if you get a do-over, you can't get away with sexy and daring at my age. Rock on, Penelope!

Yours is an intersting and genuine response, Angela. I have always found Penelope Cruz to be slightly annoying in that her accent remains SO outrageously pronouced, even after so many years practicing English. It carries a sense of her being slightly dim (sorry to say). When you draw out the word, "it" to sound like, "e-e-e-t," I just don't buy it. How can you still be pronouncing it like a Speedy Gonzales cartoon after all these years? It's like some of those "foreign" chefs on TV who deliberately mangle speech to sound exotic. I have an ear for fake accents and for when people exaggerate theirs. I think Cruz is putting us on (or she has to be really slow.) That, I find unattractive.
