Soap Casting News: Susan Lucci's Heading to 'Hot in Cleveland' ... and More

susan_lucci_all_my_children_abcThe world's been spinning like crazy in soaps, with the big-time return of Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo to 'General Hospital' dominating the headlines. But that's not all that's going on! Check out what's been happening around the dial with our Soap wrap-up.

-- Have you been watching -- and enjoying -- 'Hot In Cleveland'? I have, especially the story lines involving Wendie Malick's character, former soap star Victoria Chase, still chasing fame since her show's been canceled. Well, in an upcoming episode, a real soap diva, Susan Lucci, will arrive in Cleveland.

No plot has been revealed as yet, but wouldn't it be cool if Victoria had a rivalry with La Lucci's character from their days on a soap? Sounds like a perfect set up for comedy.

By the way, since Victoria's not currently working on a soap, she's had to scramble for work. Here's a great scene showing her newest gig in a Japanese commercial for an adult diaper:

-- Time's up for actress Tika Sumpter, Layla on 'One Life to Live.' The actress recorded her own exit from the show, explaining that she's chosen to scale back to a recurring character. Here's her very personal video, courtesy of SoapCentral.com:

alicia_minshew_all_my_children_abc-- Good news for Kendall fans. Alicia Minshew will be returning to 'All My Children' on August 9, and she's planning to stay. She's even bringing Zach (Thorsten Kaye) with her for a while. Kendall's return makes a lot of sense; with the new Bianca (Christina Bennett Lind) on the canvas and Erica having this complicated relationship with Caleb (Michael Nouri), the Kane women need to be on screen together.

-- Did you recognize the familiar face of Billy Warlock on 'As the World Turns' last week? He was playing Anthony Blackburn, a questionable character who's working with Lucinda (Elizabeth Hubbard) and has a history with Janet (Julie Pinson). In real life, of course, his history with Pinson is that they're married. Billy's been A.J. on 'General Hospital,' Frankie on 'Days of Our Lives' and, most recently, Ben on 'The Young and the Restless.'

-- Since leaving 'Days of Our Lives,' Deidre Hall's been keeping busy by writing a book. 'Deidre Hall's Kitchen Closeup: Fast, Frugal, Fabulous Food Secrets' will be available exclusively on Amazon.com, starting July 20.

-- It's with sadness that I report that soap veteran Larry Keith died July 18 of cancer. Larry, best known as Nick Davis on 'All My Children,' was one of the biggest stars on the soap in the 1970s. His character was one of the few who could put Erica in her place.

neil_winters_kristoff_st_john_cbs_the_young_and_the_restless-- There seems to be a bit of a mystery involving the status of 'The Young and the Restless'' Kristoff St. John. Kristoff, who has played Neil Winters on the soap for 19 years, is an award-winning actor. However, news broke last week that he was leaving the show by choice for a chance to star in a new sitcom from the Wayan brothers.

Then, soon after that information was circulated, Kristoff posted on Facebook that he wasn't departing from 'Y&R' after all. He wrote: "As of right now, today, I am not leaving 'The Young and The Restless.' I love my daytime home and treasure it. I love all of you and thank you for your beautiful support." For now, the situation is status quo.
