Mom-Based Talk Show to Replace 'As The World Turns' This Fall

Coming this fall, because you demanded it: Another CBS show with Julie Chen. Chen will sit on the panel of 'The View'-like talk show hosted by 'Roseanne' star Sara Gilbert that will replace CBS's long-running soap 'As The World Turns' this fall.
'As The World Turns' will come to an end in September after 54 years on the air, with Gilbert and her gang of moms taking over the time slot in October.
According to Deadline Hollywood, CBS looked at several different programs to replace 'As The World Turns,' including a cooking game show with Emeril Lagasse and a new 'Pyramid' hosted by Andy Richter. However, 'The View'-esque program tested pretty well with audiences.
Gilbert and a panel of other celebrity women such as Chen, Holly Robinson Peete, Sharon Osbourne, Marissa Jaret Winokur and Leah Remini will replace the tawdry tales of 'ATWT' with hot topic talk from a mother's perspective.
This is Chen's third show on CBS. According to the Washington Post, Chen will continue her 'Early Show' and 'Big Brother' gigs along with the unnamed talk show, but other news outlets report she'll be off 'The Early Show.' Will three shows be too much for Chenbot to handle?
Also of note, Chen is wife of CBS CEO Les Moonves, but the Washington Post reports that he didn't have any say in the pickup of the talk show, it was all Nina Tassler, CBS entertainment president.
'ATWT' was once the No. 1 soap on air, at once point reaching more than 15 million viewers. However, as we've seen across the board, viewers are fleeing their once beloved soaps. 'ATWT' is now ranked seventh in daytime soaps, pulling in less than 2 million viewers.
Daytime ratings are down, especially for Oprah, who has dropped below 'Judge Judy.'
'The Oprah Winfrey Show' averaged 4.3 million viewers last week. 'Judge Judy' clocked in around 6 million viewers.
It looks like Gilbert, Chen and co. are making a play for Oprah's viewers once the daytime queen ends her reign. But, let's not forget the most important question: What will Elisabeth Hasselbeck think of this competition!?
