'Chaos' Update: CBS Orders Series for Midseason

The 'Chaos' theory? If you don't succeed at first, try again.

CBS has picked up the Brett Ratner ('Prison Break') and Tom Spezialy (Desperate Housewives') CIA drama starring Freddy Rodriguez as a mid-season replacement, according to a report on Deadline.com. Negotiations had apparently broken down between CBS and Chaos producer 20th Century Fox over terms of the deal and it was left for dead, but discrepancies were reportedly hammered out this week.

The show is signed up for 13 weeks -- not the eight CBS initially wanted -- and the entire cast from the pilot returns, sans Stephen Rea.

Rodriguez returns to the small screen after noted turns on 'Ugly Betty' and 'Six Feet Under' in 'Chaos.' He leads a rogue group of CIA operatives caught in a web of two-timing and agency bungling. Eric Close ('Without a Trace'), James Murray, Tim Blake Nelson and Carmen Ejogo are also on board.

The 'Chaos' signing confirms that CBS will be the place for new dramas in the upcoming season. The network already has the 'Hawaii 5-0,' 'Defenders' and 'Blue Bloods' ready to go and 'Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior' has also been announced as a mid-season replacement.

It's rather unusual to find a show my husband and I can enjoy together. Either he's rolling his eyes or I'm gritting my teeth over what the other wants to watch. CHAOS was a show we both agreed on and I'm so sorry to see it go. What are they thinking, basing the viewership stats after only three airings? That's not enough for word-of-mouth to get it going. I'm sure some other shows started off with lack-luster stats and became hits after a reasonable time. Hope it gets picked up by some other network with the foresight to put it on another night than Friday (duh!).
