You don't understand how anyone can draw comedy from cancer? Well, what if we told you super-comedian Liam Neeson is involved? 'Taken' was hilarious. Wait, we're confused too ... Showtime has announced Neeson will be joining Cynthia Nixon and Reid Scott as guest stars on their upcoming dramedy series 'The Big C.' The show premiers August 16 and Laura Linney as schoolteacher dealing with cancer. Oliver Platt plays her juvenile husband and Gabourey Sidibe plays her smart-aleck sidekick.
The show is set in Minneapolis; however, they shot the 13-episode season in Stamford, Conn. Executive producer Jenny Bicks attributes the location as a reason they've been able to pull these big stars. Neeson, like Linney, will be commuting from their homes in Northwest, Conn.
'The Big C' is slated to run on Monday nights following season six episodes of Showtime's flagship suburban dramedy 'Weeds.' As viewers mourn the last season of the Botwin family -- and a show that "jumped the shark" two seasons ago -- the network hopes they fall in love with a completely different but similar white suburban tragedy with giggles.
