'PitchMen' Returning to Discovery in August
The second season of the Discovery Channel series will begin on Aug. 21 starring the other "pitchman," Andrew "Sully" Sullivan.
'PitchMen' will pick up where the first season left off, with our intrepid infomercial maverick traveling the country looking for new and exciting products to sell insomniacs and soap opera watchers around the world. Sadly, he'll be doing it without his old partner in crime. Mays passed away last year after suffering a heart-attack, and an autopsy would later reveal that he had cocaine in his system at the time of his death.
Mays' son, Billy Mays III, will fill his late father's blue shirt for the second season. It isn't known if he'll have much of a role in front of or behind the camera, but it's nice to know that Billy's presence and spirit hasn't completely disappeared from the series.
Of course, doing a series without the elder Mays must be hard, not just on the cast, crew and his family, but also on the show as a whole. Sullivan gave some insight into his heavy heart during a recent interview with the Lynchburg News & Advance:
"He was such a huge part of it," Sullivan said. "We'd say we were partners - 50/50 - but no matter how you look at it, he was the face of 'PitchMen.' I initially thought the series would end. I couldn't imagine doing it without him and didn't even know if I wanted to do it....If we folded up the show and didn't go on, it would have sent the wrong message. Our show is about not giving up the pursuit of the American dream."
