Casting Roundup: Common Lands a Pilot, Billy Baldwin to Guest on 'Parenthood' and More

CommonCommon, already an accomplished rapper and silver screen actor has turned his sights on TV.

According to Deadline Hollywood, Common has been tapped to star in AMC's pilot 'Hell on Wheels,' a western about the Transcontinental Railroad. He'll will Elam, a half black/half white freed slave seeking work on the railroad.

"Common brings a layered intensity to a very complex role," Joel Stillerman, AMC's senior vice president programming, said. "This part required someone who can transcend the stereotypes of the period and bring the character to life in a truly unique way, and he brings that."

Audiences may remember Common from this summer's 'Date Night' and 'Just Wright.'

• Move over, Jason Ritter, Billy Baldwin is coming to town. According to Ausiello Files, Baldwin is in talks to play a Adam's (Peter Krause) boss and a new love interest of Lauren Graham's Sarah on NBC's 'Parenthood.' Last season, Ritter romanced Graham's character. Is this an upgrade for Sarah?


'NCIS: LA' has promoted Eric Christian Olsen to series regular. Olsen, who has previously appeared on 'Community' and 'Brothers & Sisters' among other TV and film projects, recurred as Marty Deeks, an undercover detective who got recruited by the NCIS team. According to TVGuide.com, Olsen will appear in the two hour season premiere on Tues., Sept. 21 at 9PM.


• 'Without a Trace' alumnus Enrique Murciano has left 'Off the Map,' Shonda Rhimes' new medical drama on ABC. According to Ausiello Files, Murciano was removed from the project for creative reasons. His role will not be recast.


French Stewart and Currie Graham have booked guest star gigs on ABC's 'Private Practice.' According to TVGuide.com, the two will play brother patients. Graham's character will be need a kidney, but when the doctor's meet Stewart's character, they realize his mental state may not make him suitable to be a donor.
