Don't Forget the Salt on 'MasterChef' - Seriously, Do NOT Forget It! (VIDEO)

Don't Forget the Salt on 'MasterChef' - Seriously, Do NOT Forget It!We were just speaking of a kinder, gentler Gordon Ramsay. And on the premiere episode of 'MasterChef' (Tue., 9PM ET on Fox), we get to see even more of his softer side. The new series follows amateur cooks from all across America -- each of whom has exactly one hour to prepare their best dish. If they do well, they are awarded an apron, and get to continue in the competition. If they fail, then they are kicked off the show.

During this first episode, contestant Faruq is called in front of the judges. He makes a delicious dish of macaroni and cheese. Judge Ramsay praises this choice of food as being gutsy -- presumably because standard mac and cheese is so easy to make that it's difficult to really "wow" people with it.

The judges are into the cheesy mac ... except for one small thing. Faruq forgot to add one very important ingredient. SALT. And he forgot to do it even though the salt shaker was sitting right there in front of him!

This lack of seasoning could spell doom for Faruq. And for extra added tension and angst, the judges critique Faruq's performance while his wife and infant son are standing right to him. Pretty soon, Faruq starts crying. The surprisingly nice-seeming Gordon Ramsay has some sympathy for him. But he also reminds Faruq of this: dude, you do not forget the salt!

Will Faruq manage to survive on the show? Or will he be eliminated?

MSD, I just watched MC for the first time and you are totally spot on! Of course I could never tolerate him when he showed up on his mom's PBS show either, he is a snotty jerk who clearly needs to be taken down a peg or thirty. On the plus side, Gordon does not seem to have a lot of respect for Joe either and it seems Joe is there to be the contrary jerk of the show. Even on Hell's Kitchen, when he is having his tantrums, you get the feeling that Gordon is pushing people to do better, Joe is more of one to pull people down and tear their hearts out. And that facial hair is just pretentious.

I'm so glad hear that people are in agreement with me about Joe. I haven't watched the show since and could absolutely care less about the winner. Thanks for the posts.

Hi All,
Am I the only one loathing Joe Bastianich? How could his mother be the sweet and talented Lidia on PBS and all I see in this man is anger and attitude? He may own 22 restaurants or so, he may own three wine vineyards or whatever, but what he needs to own is a better personality. He's upsetting enough to not make me NOT watch the show. I like the true Gordon Ramsey. Expect perfection and be direct and forthcoming when your ass is on the line (Hell's Kitchen) and expect perfection with a great sense of compassion when your ass isn't on the line, but someone else's is (Master Chef). Gordon, great show and I liked the first episode, but I may not be able to stomach, no pun intended, Joe Bastianich. Sorry :(What a magnificent disappointment)! Oh and I doubt this will ever reach Joe Bastianich directly, but when did folding your arms publicly become an acceptable trait? Get some manners.

I, too, think Jos Bastianich is rude, boarish, and a major snob. He is successful only because his fabulous mother gave him the opportunity due to her major struggles and very hard work. I cannot stand to watch this program because of him, and I will not!

Good macaroni and cheese is not as easy to make as you presume. The dish is simple in concept but requires a degree of skill to do well.
