Tom Cruise Almost Ate Tarmac on 'Top Gear' Test Track

Tom Cruise in the reasonably priced car on BBC's 'Top Gear' has done something that no other show in the history of television has been able to accomplish. They made celebrity interviews interesting.

Stars don't go to 'Top Gear' to plug their latest movie or second series that's barely hanging by a thread. They are there to compete. They are there to crush their fellow celebrities in a high-fueled, high-octane competition of mortal combat. They are there to dominate one another in a purely non-sexual way (for once).

Things can, however, get a little heated on the track and we're not just talking about the weather. More than a few "Stars in a Reasonably Priced Car" have almost rolled the car while doing their power lap. But Tom Cruise wins the award for the scariest moment on "Top Gear" since the boys dared to test the razor thin sense of humor of the residents of Bagdad, Ala.

Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz dropped by the 'Top Gear' studio to promote the British release of their new movie 'Knight & Day' and, of course, take the "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car" challenge. Both did rather well, but Cruise had a rather shaky moment at "Gambon," the final, sharp left-hand turn of the infamous 'Top Gear' track, when the car reared up on its right tires and seemed to be one baboon's butt hair away from flipping over and upping the BBC's car insurance budget.

Thankfully, there was no serious damage to the car, and Cruise emerged from the Kia Cee'd unharmed. We've found footage of Diaz's and Cruise's laps for you to enjoy until the BBC sends their royal copyright infringement guard to take the thing down at "musket-point." You'll have to watch the video to find out how well they did or you can just wait until the episode finally strikes sand on U.S. shores later in the year.
