On the Scene: 'America's Got Talent' Next Four Semi-Finalists

by Michael Maloney, posted Jul 29th 2010 11:00AM

America's Got Talent'America's Got Talent' revealed the next four semi-finalists, but before the live show began last night, Piers Morgan and Sharon Osbourne had a reunion with ex-judge David Hasselhoff ...sort of. The studio audience was treated to Morgan and Osbourne taping a segment that will appear on Comedy Central's upcoming roast of the 'Baywatch' hunk.

Morgan and Osbourne don't often agree, but they put their differences aside in order to team up and razz the Hoff. If their remarks were any indication of how cutting Hasselhoff's roast will be, the guy might want to wear some body armor to the show's taping on Sunday.

After taping the roast segment twice, it was on with the show!

Host Nick Cannon revealed that America had voted to move body artist Haspop, dance troupe Studio One Young Beast Society, and singer Debra Roma to the next round. The judges had to decide whether the belly-dancers (Kaya and Sadie) or the bike guy (Jeremy Van Schoonhoven) would also go to the semi-finals. Howie Mandel raved about the belly dancers on Tuesday, but because Osbourne and Morgan threw their votes first to Van Schoonhoven, we'll never know how he would have voted.

Actually, Mandel joked that he, too, would have voted for Jeremy, but the belly-dancers could have gone to his house.

"My wife would have frowned upon that," Mandel deadpanned to TV Squad after the show. "When you think of a Vegas show and what elicits danger and different emotions, I think Jeremy [was the better choice.] But then my testosterone and male instinct is attracted to Kaya and Sadie.

"While these four can go far I don't particularly sense a winner in this group," Mandel added.

Osbourne skipped the post-show press line. She had to hustle over to the Beverly Hilton hotel for CBS' annual press party for the TV Critics Association after 'ATG' finished taping. Osbourne went there to tout her new untitled CBS daytime talk show with four other celebrity moms.

Singer Mike Posner performed his hit tune 'Cooler Than Me,' currently No. 4 on the Top 40 Chart.

Morgan stood by his decision to vote for Jeremy. "I think you've got to be sensible at this stage," Morgan said. "The girls are great, but I think that Jeremy was amazing. He's got an act. He makes all his own props. That shows a real dedication."

Does Jeremy need to work on his shyness? "I don't know how much personality you need when you're doing what he's doing," Morgan mused.

Morgan doesn't vote, but he does review the air show and admitted his praise of Romer on Tuesday's show may have been too high. "I wasn't as 'wowed' as I was in the room," he said. "It was a good performance, but not great."

Morgan doesn't mind admitting when he's wrong. "It happens so rarely," he quipped.
