ABC's McPherson Denies Harassment Allegations, Sources Blame E-Mail for Investigation

The case of the departed ABC executive is getting complicated.

Former ABC exec Steve McPherson said Thursday that he was not being investigated for sexual harassment at the time of his exit, according to TV Guide.

McPherson is "not going to sit back idly regarding the false and defamatory stories fueled by unknown and anonymous sources that are now appearing in the media since his resignation from ABC," according to a statement from his rep.

Yet the stories accusing McPherson of misconduct are piling up. The Hollywood Reporter claims that the investigation was triggered by complaints from a female Disney executive, resulting in a review of McPherson's e-mails while he was away on vacation. When he returned to work on Monday, the account was blocked and he left after a confrontation with Disney executives.

The THR report refers to "incidents" involving McPherson several women, including executives and on-air talent, but does not give a description of the nature of the incidents nor does the report use the phrase "sexual harassment.".

McPherson was known in the company for having a bad temper, according to The Hollywood Reporter piece, which also speculates that his termination would not have occurred had he produced hit ratings for ABC. The network is third behind Fox and CBS but was last when McPherson came aboard. The former exec brought hits like 'Lost,' 'Desperate Housewives,' 'Grey's Anatomy,' 'Dancing With the Stars' and 'Modern Family' to the network.
