News Roundup: Paul Lee Confirmed as Head of ABC, 'Cougar Town' Keeps its Name and More

It's official: Paul Lee is the new head of ABC Entertainment Group."I'm proud of everything we achieved at ABC Family, and I'm looking forward to working with another great team at ABC Entertainment Group to bring even more compelling stories to viewers," Lee said in a statement. "ABC is a great network defined by creativity and known for delivering some of the best shows on television. I'm excited to be part of it, and deeply honored to be chosen for the unique opportunity to lead the network and the brand into the future."
Disney made the announcement via press release.
Lee served as head of ABC Family since 2004. He helped usher in original programming such as 'The Secret Life of the American Teenager,' 'Greek,' Kyle XY' and 'Pretty Little Liars.'
Lee will not serve as presidents of both networks. His replacement at ABC Family will be named at a later date.
In other TV news ...
• After months of speculation, 'Cougar Town' is keeping its name. During the course of the show's first season, the premise changed from a single woman on the prowl for dates -- hence the cougar title -- to being more about a goofy family of friends. According to Ausiello Files, the creators just couldn't come up with anything good.
"I'm not changing the title," Bill Lawrence, executive producer, told Ausiello. "We never thought of a good new one, which kind of sucks. And when you look at the modern landscape of television, changing the title means changing your DVR and all this other stuff."
• Despite the protests, unflattering New York Times profiles and on-camera fistfights, last night's second season premiere of 'Jersey Shore' scored huge ratings for MTV. More than 5 million viewers tuned in -- 5.3 million, to be exact -- as the self-proclaimed guidos and guidettes migrated south from New Jersey to Miami. It was MTV's biggest season premiere in seven years, with 300 percent more viewers tuning in for season 2 than the season 1 premiere, and 10 percent more than the first season finale, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
• According to The Wrap, Charles Mesure has been promoted to a series regular on ABC's sci-fi drama 'V.' Mesure played mercenary Kyle Hobbes in a recurring guest star capacity during the show's first season. His character was last seen in a secret meeting with the Vs.
• Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar, stars of 'The Big Bang Theory,' will host the 62nd annual Primetime Emmy Engineering Awards on Sat., Aug. 14, at the Renaissance Hotel in Hollywood. The Wrap reports that at the ceremony, Desilu will receive the Philo T. Farnsworth Award for its innovation of using a multicamera film setup before a live studio audience.
