Fox to Launch American Country Awards

FoxFox is proving it's a little bit country with its latest awards show.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Fox will launch the American Country Awards with a two-hour telecast on Dec. 6.

It's no secret that American audiences love country music. CBS has the Academy of Country Music Awards, ABC is home to the Country Music Awards and the 'CMA Music Festival,' an annual three-hour block of country music, and CMT -- that's Country Music Television, a whole channel for country music -- has the Country Music Television Awards.

Some awards shows are floundering in the ratings race, but this year the Grammys were seen by 26.6 million viewers, up more than 7 million viewers compared to last year. The Hollywood Reporter has this handy chart comparing the amount of viewers to the various country music awards.

Despite a dip in overall record sales, audiences are still eating up country music acts. Taylor Swift's 'Fearless' album has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide and been certified platinum six times. Lady Antebellum's song 'Need You Now' has sold more than 3 million copies in the United States and topped various charts around the world.
