'Last Comic Standing' - 'Week 9' Recap

Mike DeStefano(S07E09) The top six battle it out and there's only two weeks left until there's a new 'Last Comic Standing' winner! Can you guys stand it? I can't!

I was right and Jonathan Thymius goes home. Not a big surprise -- he wasn't a good fit for the show even though he was a great comic. He just misses being able to go on tour with the Top 5.

Roy Wood Jr. is first and says the only reason he's doing comedy is because he got arrested when he was 19 for credit card theft. Man, he might win, guys. I really think he's a dark horse.

His set is really good this week. He talks about how stupid is to cheat and then has my favorite joke about every white person who likes black people should wear a wristband. Judge Natasha Leggero points out that his voice makes him hilarious no matter what he's saying and she's right. But it helps that his jokes are good too. Leggero says she thinks he may win.

My crush Tommy Johnagin says he knew he wanted to be comedian when he was 8 years old and then says Warren Buffet bought his first stock at age 6. Ha! He talks about his role model being his stepfather and it's pretty tender.

He took my advice and is wearing a darker shirt so his pit stains don't show. It's not his strongest set but he's so natural and he does new jokes every week. I laughed out loud at his talk about hitting a deer with his car and the girl he's with saying, "Thank God, we're all right." His response: "I'm not thanking God. That's one of his creatures and he threw it at us!" Amazing.

We finally get a peek at Myq Kaplan's supportive family this week and it's adorable and Jewish. In the same segment, the judges say he gets so many applause breaks because the audience respects his jokes and I agree.

He gets a lot of applause when he comes out on stage and riffs on it a bit. His jokes about the absurdities in prejudice are great and smart and end with the line: "Bigotry is confusing." His set is more friendly and spontaneous this week. I think that'll definitely help him out.

Next up is Felipe Esparza who says he was involved in gangs before he rethought his life. Man, everyone's been through some stuff on this show, huh? Bunch of ex-cons up in here and we haven't even gotten to Mike DeStefano yet. Anyway, Leggero says it's like he was born to make people laugh.

He talks about his family and being poor, how his mom cooks with lard instead of oil and so he had a heart attack at age 12. Listen, I really just can't even talk about Esparza anymore. He does a joke about his brother being gay but also really good-looking and says it's like "having Superman powers but you don't want to rescue nobody." It's similar to a joke Russell Brand does about the Jonas Brothers being virgins. I wonder if anyone's going to point that out? Oh the judges give him positive feedback and don't mention he stole a joke. Great.

DeStefano, who's been growing on me steadily since the beginning, is next. He runs on stage, looking in good spirits. He immediately mocks religion, calling Mel Gibson "bad advertising for Jesus." I like him more and more every week. His last joke doesn't hit but it's in character and he's hilarious to watch.

Judge Andy Kindler says he's "bright but also gruff." It's the perfect description.

Then, it's time for established comedian and founding member of 'The Blue Collar Comedy Tour' Ron White to do a set. It's an all right break, I guess. Some of the competing comics are actually more entertaining, which I don't think is supposed to be the case. Eh, it's neither here nor there and I usually like White's stand-up.

I think Esparza should go home next week. What do you think? Tell me in the comments.

Did you happen to notice that Roy Wood Jr. also stole a joke? Almost word for word, which made me angry. I can't remember the name of the original comic but the joke is not Roy's. I was almost reciting the joke as he said it. Quite frustrating. Great recap though! And I agree, Esparza should go home.

I should also point out that the stolen joke was the wristband joke. d:

I feel like it's not that much of a spoiler. The eliminated contestant is announced at the very beginning of the show. By knowing this you really aren't having any of the episode ruined for you.

Hey thanks for putting the spoiler after the break for those of us that haven't watched yet. I'm not usually one that gets upset about spoilers but it hasn't even been 24 hours yet. A lot of people have DVRs now. They've been around for about a decade. You should take that into account.
