Bankruptcy is not just something that happens out of nowhere -- a serious life-altering event or a series of bad financial decisions have to occur. However, on yesterday morning's 'The View,' 'The Real Housewives of New Jersey' star Teresa Giudice maintained that her family's bankruptcy was not their fault: The reason they don't have money is because of their tenants' inability to pay rent and a lawsuit from her husband's ex-partner.Giudice's statements seemed rehearsed. When the hosts ashed her to elaborate, she became flustered. In an moment of actual TV journalism, Elisabeth Hasselbeck pressed Giudice about whether her outrageous spending could be the problem.
"No, not at all ... because I always live within my means. Always," Guidice stammered.
Joy Behar and guest co-host Bryant Gumbel asked most of the hard-hitting questions, both of them dumbfounded with where all of the Giudices' money went.
"Is your husband a slumlord?" Behar asked. Then later, "How can you live within your means if you're now $11 million in bankruptcy? I don't get that."
Fellow guest co-host Mario Cantone remained quiet during most of the segment -- it may have been the longest he's ever gone without talking. Finally, he pointed out Giudice's gigantic diamond ring. She explained that it was a 10th anniversary present from her husband, and a fake. Cantone turned to the crowd and became an auctioneer: "Do I hear $20 million! 20? 20?"
Tell us: Was the show too tough on Giudice? Or should she and her husband be held accountable for their actions?
