Tommy Chong to Huckabee: Weed Lies Like Yours Put Me in Jail (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Aug 4th 2010 8:50PM
Tommy Chong Does His Best to Defend Weed on 'Huckabee'Things got a little feisty on 'The Huckabee Show' (weekdays, syndicated). Actor and comedian Tommy Chong was invited on the show to discuss marijuana legalization. Chong is best known for his pothead-based performances in the 'Up in Smoke' series of movies. So, it was understandable that he'd have a different point of view about "legalizing it," as compared to the conservative Mike Huckabee. But then, Chong started to get annoyed -- and that's when the anger, the interrupting, and the use of a curse word happened.

Tommy repeatedly accused Huckabee and fellow guest David Evans of lying about the effects of pot use. Eventually, Chong just got mad and started directly fighting with Huckabee.

"You're getting paid to say what you're sayin'," Chong said to Huckabee. " ... You get paid to recite all the lies."

Huckabee admitted to getting paid for his show, but denied that he was being paid to promote any particular point of view. Which was about the point at which Tommy Chong cursed at Mike. He called Huckabee a "mushroom farmer." "... You know what a mushroom farmer is? ... You keep em' in the dark, and you throw *BLEEPED* on them."

Huh. We haven't heard that particular metaphor before. And not only was Tommy's curse word bleeped out, but even his mouth was obscured with a fuzzy rectangle-thing. So we'll have to use our imagination in order to guess what he said.

The only reason my original comment is on this page twice is that it didn't seem to "take" the first time.

Tommy Chong got screwed by the government. Period.

I'd smoked pot for many years for recreational use and then, for the last 25, for medicinal reasons. I've never done any other drugs. The reports from the government are total crap and every pot smoker knows it.

Yeah man!

Way to fail to address the point being made and call him names instead of supporting your own perspective!

I mean, damn man. I'm high right now and I can still tell you that's a logical fallacy. You'd better hurry up and call me a poopy head before it dawns on you that you're dumber than a stoned high school drop out.

Fact is, if you were to WANT to learn the truth, you could find it by using nothing more difficult than google. Search for "cannabis cures cancer" or "US Patent #6630507" and you'll find TONS of information about the medical benefits of cannabis...but one thing you'll never find? A single death caused by cannabis overdose. IT IS NOT PHYSICALLY POSSIBLE for a human being to overdose on cannabis!

You also will not find a long-term cannabis user with Alzheimer's disease.

Also, just for the record...while Tommy was arrested, tried, and imprisoned for "selling bongs", the actual fact is that he never sold a single thing that he was charged with selling. As he wasn't involved in the company except that they used his likeness on the "Chong Bong"...so in effect, they jailed an innocent man, knowing full well that it was entrapment at the outset, and an outright lie decades even before that.

US Patent #6630507: Cannabinoids as antioxidant and NEUROPROTECTANT. Get that people? Neuro = "brain", Protectant = "PROTECTANT!!!" The US Government has a PATENT on cannabis for MEDICAL USES, in spite of the fact that they SAY that "cannabis has no accepted medical uses."

Since the first second they filed that patent in 1999, THEY KNEW IT WAS ALL A LIE! Since that very second, EVERY cannabis arrest, prosecution, trial and incarceration was BLATANT HIPOCRISY as it's absolute finest!

Learn the truth...plant a seed on the main street of your own home town, and let's Overgrow The World!

What does harsh punishment have to do with proving marijuana should be legal? Should i claim that speeding tickets cost too much, so speeding should be legal?

nobody has died from marijuana while thousands die from high speed crashes every year. make a sensible analogy if you want to argue.

Should someone make it clear that Tommy Chong did nine months in a Federal prison for selling GLASS.
That's how crazy the insipid drug war is.

"The estimated cost of Operation Pipe Dream was over $12 Million and included the resources of 2,000 law enforcement officers" Well done. What did that accomplish?

Well if that's a pothead for you, always repeating themselves then all the republicans must smoke the evil weed because they repeat themselves daily. It's Obama's fault, it's Obama's fault, it's Obama's fault. He wants to raise eveyone's taxes, raise Taxes, Raise taxes. The truth he only wants to keep taxing the 3% of all the people who make more than $200,000.00 a yr. The sky is falling, the sky is falling, the sky is falling. The reason they don't want to legalize pot is because the drug companies who donate alot of money to mostly republicans don't want pot to become a healing medicine because they would lose alot of money from their drug sales and because they haven't figured out how to tax it and how to stop people from growing it for personel use.

Actually, if you had done your research it is NOT Obama's fault..everyone is blaming everything on Obama..and Bush is the one that got us into all this mess to begin with...BUT..Jimmy Carter tried to legalize pot..but RONALD REAGAN stopped that...so yep, it's a damn republicans fault..

The Economic reality of the War on Drugs, in my mind, is what makes the argument for illegalization untenable.

Billions of dollars every year are spent on enforcement and incarceration, along with irreplaceable man-hours diverted away from things like counter-terrorism, a bill footed in the vast majority by the tax payer. This is instead of the billions of dollars in tax revenue that would be produced though its regulation, to say nothing of jobs and commerce that would spiral off such an industry. And, for our investment, we get usage rate statistics that have slowly oscillated slightly up and down for the past few decades.

So, what's being argued is that we should accept a reduced level of citizen rights, untold billions in spending and higher taxes, all for some nebulous argument about what's in the greater 'public welfare'?

Sounds like something a liberal would say, to me. ;)

But stop me if this is an argument you've heard before.
