'America's Got Talent' - 'Episode 520' Results Show Recap

America's Got Talent(S05E20) "They are more than four people who deserve to go through tonight." - Howie

Even if Mary Ellen was part of this week's group of performers, last night's Top 48 performance show was quite entertaining and offered some mind-blowing acts -- including Murray's tiger act and ArcAttack's lighting performance.

Sadly, only four will move on tonight. But all is not lost for the great acts who were sent packing tonight -- there will be a wild-card week where a few of the rejected acts will get a second chance. Let's hope Howie will be sane when the judges decide who comes back and doesn't fight to give Chipps or Mary Ellen another chance.

More on the wild cards, the YouTube week and this week's results, coming up!

The first performers who learn their fate are Doogie Horner, Mary Ellen and Murray. These three are some of Howie's favorite acts, as Nick pointed out. Of course, Howie said a few nice things to Mary Ellen. Thankfully, America got it right and Mary Ellen and Doogie are sent packing. Murray gets a spot in the next round.

This week's performers got to attend a special screening of 'The Other Guys,' and Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg introduced the movie to them. Though I doubt either actor watches 'AGT,' it was fun to hear Ferrell tell Doogie that he f***ed the crowd, referring to his audition.

U.K. musician Taio Cruz performed his hit 'Dynamite.'

Taylor Mathews, Da Maniacs and Lindsey Sterling are asked to the stage. I didn't think Taylor had a chance, considering the talent of last night's performances, but as soon as Nick ordered this trio of acts to the stage, it was clear Taylor would be voted through. The crowd went wild as Nick did his usual pause before announcing the name of the performer who would move on. The crowd was cheering and screaming Taylor's name! Nick confirmed that Taylor was indeed going to the semifinals.

The third group was composed of Strikers All Stars, Nu Covenant and Prince Poppycock. Piers said that Strikers was good, Nu Covenant was disappointing last night, and that Prince Poppycock had one of the best voices in the competition. Nick announced that Prince Poppycock is getting a spot in the next round. Note to Howie: See Middle America can enjoy such an act as Poppycock offered us.

Music legend Bret Michaels performed. The crowd went wild! Michaels has definitely fired up his career in the past year or so and being on 'The Celebrity Apprentice' alongside Shannon surely helped. I rediscovered him while watching 'Apprentice' and was greatly surprised at how down to earth, respectful and hard-working he was compared to many other rockers. Michaels is a fighter and a survivor. It's great to see him back on stage after all the health issues he had this year. His performance of 'Every Rose Has Its Torn' was intimate -- was alone with his guitar -- and resonated with the crowd, even if most didn't know the lyrics when he said "Come on!" a few times to get them to join him during the chorus.

The final three acts come to the stage: Rudi Macaggi, ArcAttack and Anna & Patryk. Nick sends Rudi packing. The judges better bring him back for the wild-card week as he could do well in Vegas. I was disappointed that ArcAttack didn't use the microphone time Nick offered to talk to the judges. At least say "Thank you" or "We're glad to be here and hope to move on." Don't say "I got nothing!" By talking to the judges in a very mature way, Anna scored a few brownie points. Piers voted for Anna & Patryk. Howie voted for ArcAttack. Sharon broke the tie by voting for ArcAttack.

The four acts moving on this week are Murray, Taylor Mathews, Prince Poppycock and ArcAttack. I got three out of the four picks right. You?

The Top 48 performances are now over. Here is a list of who is moving on so far:

- Seven singers/singing duos: Debra Romer, Nathaniel Kenyon, Christina & Ali, Alice Tan Ridley, Michael Grimm, Taylor Mathews, Prince Poppycock. Too many singers for my taste.

- Three dancers/dance crews: Studio One Young Beast Society, Haspop, Future Funk.

- Two magicians: Antonio Restivo, Murray.

- Four novelty acts: Jeremy, AscenDance, Fighting Gravity, ArcAttack.

I've been talking about a "Top 16" in my last recaps since our Top 48 votes were used to select 16 acts, but we all knew that the producers would add a few more acts! Next week, YouTube acts will perform and four will move on. The following week, wild cards will perform and four acts will be voted through. This means we will get a Top 24.

I don't mind the wild cards; this will allow great acts who did well in their auditions but didn't shine during their Top 48 performances to redeem themselves. It will also give another chance to great acts who didn't get voted through because there were too many good acts in their performance show. However, I don't like it that acts from YouTube will get a chance, since they didn't go through the normal 'AGT' gruesome and stressful process.

What do you think of the YouTube and wild-card weeks? Do you think these performers are worthy of a spot in the Top 24? Which acts do you hope the judges bring back for the wild-card performances?

I hope Lindsey will come back in the 'wild cards' episode. She really was awesome.
