Richard Schiff Joins 'Criminal Minds' Spin-Off

by Rich Keller, posted Aug 5th 2010 5:10PM
Richard Schiff has been cast in the new 'Criminal Minds' spin-off as an FBI director.Three months after CBS announced the addition of a 'Criminal Minds' spin-off to the network schedule, producers are still working to fill out the cast. This time around, they're pulling someone directly from the White House.

Richard Schiff, who played lovable but surly Communications Director Toby Ziegler on 'The West Wing,' has been added to the cast of 'Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior,' according to Entertainment Weekly. Most recently seen on the quickly canceled 'Past Life,' Schiff will play Jack Fickler, who is the director of the FBI. Schiff's character will appear in the very first episode of the series.

Producers of the spin-off have been in casting mode for months. Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker signed on to the show as F.B.I. profiler Sam Cooper shortly after CBS gave the show a green light. At the end of June, TV and movie veteran Janeane Garofalo joined the cast as a member of Cooper's team. Additional cast includes Matt Ryan, Michael Kelly, Beau Garrett and 'Criminal Minds' veteran Kirsten Vangsness.

'Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior' is scheduled to premiere at mid-season.

Another comment I have to make is that there are so many actresses out there that are so much better then Janeane Garofalo. Why in the world would they hire her. They had to know it would cause trouble. She must have came cheap!!

I genuinely don't understand some of these comments. So what if Janeana Garofalo leans left... so does half of Hollywood! She's an *actress* so she can play anything in theory. And the fact is, she was on '24' - she's played a Federal Agent before! So all this "I'm boycotting based on Janeane" is ludicrous... it's not like she's a writer on the show. She's an actor. Mandy Patinkin has always been vocal about being left-leaning but he didn't "ruin" Criminal Minds when he was on... did he?

I'll watch anything with Richard Schiff in it (even if Garofalo is in it. YUK!)

I will automatically not be watching this spin off since I am at one person who boycotts Jeanean Garofolo.

I love criminal minds, too bad I won't be watching the new one with that wack job Janeane Garofalo she is an insult to all level headed people in this country. I hope they reconsider having her on. I can't even imagine what she would be like to work with, other than horrible.

I can just see CBS making a spin off of Two and A Half Men by adding Charlie's kids with various women and Alan's adopted Chinese children... No budget for new show develpoment?

I absolutely love criminal minds but I share the same sentiment as some others.. I will not, will not, watch any new shows with JG in them. I just can't stomach her. What a way to ruin a great show. Makes you wonder.. what were they thinking????

No, Criminal Minds is not being cancelled, in fact they are filming right now (I'm a twitter whore and follow all of the cast) Kirsten Vangsness is doing both shows, and the only one leaving Criminal Minds is AJ Cook because CBS laid her off.
