Rosie O'Donnell Returns to Daytime Talk on Oprah's OWN Network
Since she left her slot as one of the hosts of 'The View' back in 2007, Rosie O'Donnell has been looking for a new venue to make her return to television. She even went so far as to join up with syndicated show veterans Dick Robertson and Scott Carlin to create a new daytime talker. Now, thanks to Oprah Winfrey, all her hard work is paying off.
Deadline Hollywood reports that Oprah has purchased O'Donnell's talk show for her OWN cable network. Premiering in 2011, the program will mark a return to the happy and fun Rosie that viewers remember from her days on 'The Rosie O'Donnell Show' back in the 1990s. This will be a change for O'Donnell, who has shown a darker, more controversial side to her personality since she left her program in 2002.
According to the cable network, which is a joint venture between Winfrey and Discovery Communications, Rosie fans can anticipate a fun and uplifting show with the comedian's energetic style. The network went on to say, "Rosie is an undeniable talent who has captivated TV audiences for nearly 20 years. She's a true original, who brings her authentic voice, dynamic energy and pure passion to everything she does."
Said Rosie on her talk show's pickup, "It's an honor and a privilege to work with Oprah Winfrey on her network. I'm excited to be back on daytime television."
While O'Donnell's original talk show was loved by both fans and critics -- to the point of winning six Daytime Emmys in a row -- some fans were turned off during her more serious period, which included a one-year stint on 'The View.' Fans of the darker Rosie may be turned off to her return to 'Happy Talk' and possibly consider her a sell-out.
How do you feel about Rosie's return to the daytime talk circuit?
