Jonathan DemmeJonathan Demme is set to direct two episodes of the HBO comedy 'Enlightened,' according to Deadline. The series, about a woman who has a spiritual awakening after a breakdown, was created by Mike White and stars Laura Dern, Luke Wilson and Dern's mother, Diane Ladd. Reportedly, the 'Silence of the Lambs' director and Dern are good friends.

'Enlightened' is Demme's second project with HBO this year. The director teamed with author Walter Mosley to develop a pilot based on Mosley's new detective novel series, 'The Long Fall.' Demme is reportedly directing the pilot for the series, which will be produced by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman's company Playtone.

Aside from 2008's 'Rachel Getting Married,' Demme has been directing mostly documentaries and music films for the past few years, including two Neil Young films, 'Trunk Show' and 'Heart of Gold,' and 'Jimmy Carter Man from the Plains.'

He has yet another music-related project coming up in 'Marley,' a documentary about reggae legend Bob Marley. Demme's also attached to the Dave Eggers-penned 'Zeitoun' and is said to be interested in directing 'Honeymoon With Harry,' written by Paul Haggis. Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper have read for the lead roles in 'Harry,' but have not been confirmed for the project.
