News Roundup: Broadcast Network Viewers Get Older, Casting Updates and More

CBSIf you're watching CBS, there's a good chance you're around 55 years old.

LiveFeed is reporting a new study by Nielsen and analyst Steve Sternberg has found the median ages of CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox viewers are now higher than ever.

The average age of an ABC viewer is 51 years old, 49 for NBC and 44 for Fox. Ten years ago ABC was 43, NBC was 45, CBS was 52 and Fox was 35.The CW has stayed the same at an average of 33 years old.

Some of the oldest-skewing broadcast shows are 'Dancing With the Stars' at 57 years old and on CBS, the 'NCIS' franchise at 57 and 'The Good Wife' at 58. Fox's Sunday night animated block of programming's average viewer age is 30-32 years old. Meanwhile, 'Glee' clocks in at 38 years old.

In other TV news ...

'True Blood' star Kevin Alejandro will guest star on 'Parenthood' for a multiple episode arc. Alejandro will play Mike, a possible love interest for Lauren Graham's Sarah. Mike and Sarah work together at Adam's shoe company. Zosia Mamet of 'United States of Tara' will also guest star as a friend of Amber. [Ausiello Files]

Eric Winters has joined CBS's 'The Mentalist' in a recurring role. Winters will play an FBI agent that is a possible love interest for Amanda Righetti's character Grace. [Deadline]

'Star Wars: Clone Wars' season 3 will premiere on Sept. 17. The Cartoon Network series that chronicles the time between 'Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones' and 'Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith' is a big ratings winner for the network. Last season's premiere was seen by 2.5 million viewers. [The Wrap]


A medical drama from 'Privileged' creator Rina Mimoun has received a put pilot order from CBS. A put pilot means the network has to air the pilot or it will be penalized. The project remains untitled and focuses on a mother who reconnects with her adult children after she joins the family medical practice. [Deadline]

Comedy Central has ordered a pilot for a talk show about social networks. Comedian Dwayne Perkins has been tapped to star in 'Dwaynebook,' a talk show along the lines of 'Tosh.0' The show is set to feature sketches with characters who are fake employees of the show. [Mashable]

HGTV is searching for the best handyman/woman in a new series. 'All-American Handyman' features 15 men and five women competing in challenges and quizzes over the course of four episodes. The winner will receive a $10,000 shopping spree at Sears and a development deal with HGTV. Molly Culver will host the competition series premiering on Sun., Sept. 5 at 10PM ET. [HGTV]

Rick Hoffman has joined the cast of USA Network's 'A Legal Mind.' The series stars Gabriel Macht as Harvey a lawyer who hires a young college student. Hoffman will play Gabriel Macht's character's rival at the law firm. [Deadline]

Fox News has the oldest audience on cable. According to a new study, the average age of a Fox News viewer is 65 years old. CNN comes in at 63 years old, MSNBC at 59 and CNBC at 52. [LiveFeed]

BET's 'Reed Between the Lines' has added Melissa De Sousa to the cast. De Sousa will play a holistic healer who shares a suite with psychiatrist Dr. Reed (Tracee Ellis Ross). [Deadline]

No, that's not the way a median works. What it means is that there's a 50% chance you're younger and a 50% chance you're older--nothing about how likely that specific age is.
