If you've ever dreamed of joining in on Joan Holloway's conga line or sipping scotch with dreamy Don Draper, this could be your lucky day.According to Reuters, 'Mad Men,' the Emmy winning AMC drama that's spawned a renewed interest in all things 1960's, is putting a walk-on role up for bids on EBay. Beginning today (Thu., Aug. 12), the site will host a 10-day auction for the bit part as well as sundry props from the set. A portion of the proceeds will go to the lung cancer program at Southern California's City of Hope hospital.
The irony of this is not lost on the show's brass, who know all too well how much these characters inhale carcinogens. "The smoking depicted was ubiquitous in the '60s world of Madison Avenue advertising and is a vivid reminder of how far we've progressed in our attitudes toward smoking since then," Sandra Stern, chief operating officer at Lionsgate, which produces the show, said.
Among the items up for bid are dresses that've been worn by Christina Hendricks' Holloway and January Jones' Betty Draper, as well as random props from the now-defunct Sterling Cooper offices.
With two best drama Emmys under its belt, 'Mad Men' will enter the award show fray on Sun., Aug. 29 with a whopping 17 nominations -- despite the fact that this past Sunday's third episode was down 24 percent in the ratings over the July 25 season premiere.
