Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid touched off controversy this week when he said "I don't know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican" -- a statement that may have irked Hispanic Republicans such as Brian Sandoval, who currently leads Reid's son Rory in the race for Nevada Governor.'Fox & Friends' (weekdays, 6AM ET on Fox News) turned to legal analyst Peter Johnson Jr. to deal with this delicate topic. Would Johnson use his dispassionate lawyer mind to de-escalate the rhetoric? Let's see:
"What this is is proof positive of the intentional injection of race into politics in this country by some Democratic leaders," Johnson argued. "[It's] really an attitude born of ignorance, and some ways prejudice, that ethnic groups are monolithic voting blocks.
"In some ways [Reid] is acting like a feudal lord," he continued. "In some ways he's acting like a plantation owner."
Plantation owner, huh? Couldn't just stop at "feudal lord." Sadly, one can only conclude that Peter Johnson Jr. Esq. was not trying to elevate discourse.
