'Entourage' - 'Tequila and Coke' Recap

by Chris Jordan, posted Aug 16th 2010 9:31AM
Entourage cast(Season 7, Episode 7) The NFL deal has collapsed.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, playing himself, does not like what he sees posted online about Ari Gold -- essentially the lowlights of conversations in the TMA offices recorded by Lizzie Grant -- and the league has decided that Ari's public image is too damaged to own an NFL franchise in Los Angeles.

"I don't do scandals and the NFL doesn't do scandals,'' Jones says to Ari.

We do have to laugh a bit at that line. Mr. Jones, the NFL is dominated by news of scandalous behavior. The cases of Ben Roethlisberger (sexual assault allegations), Michael Vick (convicted of dog fighting) and Ray Lewis (charged with murder but pleaded to a lesser crime) come to mind. But in the 'Entourage' world, the NFL is depicted as scandal free. So be it.

My, a lot happened on this episode. Nice, brisk pace, too.

Vincent Chase is still spiraling out of control. We suppose passing out naked halfway in a pool wasn't enough to get him straight. Here he's drinking and doing cocaine at a party the night prior to a meeting with Randall Wallace about the future of the Air-Walker project. The meeting didn't go well. Wallace detected something was still up with Vince and he doesn't like Vince tweeting about Turtle's tequila. This multi-million dollar deal could be in jeopardy. What does Vince do? He lies to Eric about doing coke and hops in a car and drives up the coast for a getaway with porn star girlfriend Sasha Grey, who is definitely not a stabilizing influence.

Let's note here that Scott Lavin is also not a stabilizing influence on Vince as he was doing the blow with Vince. Kids, don't do coke. It enlarges you're heart and then you die young. Not good.

Want to go for a third unstabilizing influence on Vince? How about Turtle? His tequila drives everyone crazy, including Vince, and it seems to repel clothing. Every other Turtle scene features a topless woman drinking his tequila. Vince told Wallace there will be no more tweets about the tequila -- we'll see about that, especially since Turtle manages Vince's Twitter account.

Turtle is doing a very good job promoting Avion Tequila, distilled by Alex's family friend, Carlos, in Mexico. He's doing so well that the Gil Turner's liquor shop on Sunset Strip wants 50 cases. The problem is Carlos can't deliver the goods in that short amount of time. Turtle trouble shoots by calling celebs to whom he's given cases to previously, including Mark Wahlberg and Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, in cameos, to make the delivery to Gil Turner's.

This chain of events is puzzling. Why doesn't Carlos have the means to move 50 cases to Los Angeles? If they didn't have the product ready to go, then why would Carlos -- through Turtle's girlfriend, Alex -- want to sign up an A-lister like Vince to promote the tequila? Something doesn't seem right about this -- Turtle might be in way over his head.

Finally, a sobered up and supposedly reformed Billy Walsh pitched Drama and Eric the idea of an animated series based on Drama's voice.

"You're a high-strung simian trying to make it in a human world that just doesn't get you,'' Walsh says.

Drama doesn't like Billy's 'Johnny's Bananas' and storms out of the meeting.

"I'm intrigued,'' Eric says.

So are we.

Quick edits

Stop the presses -- That was Carrie Fisher as the Deadline Hollywood editor.

Blood and ink -- Nice look at the 'Medellin' tattoo on Billy's back during Billy-Vince morning scene.

"I don't make the rules. Not all of them, anyway." -- Ari on his place in the world.

Outro music -- 'One Night Stand' by the late Janis Joplin

You didnt even discuss the Lizzy/Ari situation, I think that it was handled very well and it was actually really sweet the dynamic that they had in the end

I agree completely -- I'm sure we'll revisit the situation in the very near future!

The NFL doesn't do scandals. Nobody blames the NFL or even really thinks of the NFL when a player gets into legal trouble.

I think they need a buzz to explain shipping lots of product to the US. And by product, I don't mean tequila.

It is great to have Billy Walsh back on the show. Even though his character has changed dramatically, he is still awesome. Its funny how Billy's former life is Vincent's current one.

Did I miss some part of the episode? Wasn't Vinny passed out/unconscious last week, and nobody had anything to say about that?

He said that he doesn't do scandals, the NFL doesn't do scandals. Didn't mention the punk ass players that are paid to play for them.
