Newt Gingrich Evokes Nazis in Ground Zero Mosque Debate (VIDEO)

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Aug 16th 2010 6:11PM
The controversy over the 'Ground Zero' mosque went national over the weekend when President Obama weighed in, and then clarified, his remarks on the issue.

Next Gingrich was on 'Fox & Friends' (weekdays, 6AM ET on Fox News) Monday morning, and he agreed with one thing the president said -- American Muslims currently have the legal right to build the mosque. But while the president punted on the "wisdom" of the project, Gingrich jumped right in, declaring "it is profoundly wrong to have a mosque that close to Ground Zero."

"Nazis don't have the right to put up a sign next to the Holocaust museum," he opined. "There's no reason for us to accept a mosque next to the World Trade Center."

Godwin's Law states that all discussions -- regardless of topic or scope -- inevitably devolve into each side yelling about Hitler and the Nazis. The law was initially formulated for the wild and crazy world of Internet discussions. However, it turns out the discourse on cable news isn't any more restrained or sensible. Especially when Newt Gingrich is involved.
