Jon Stewart vs. Glenn Beck; Fighting Over the 'Ground Zero' Mosque (VIDEO)
'Daily Show' host Jon Stewart has been making fun of Fox News anchor Glenn Beck for a long time. On the latest episode of the show (weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central), Stewart criticized Beck for his stance on the "Ground Zero" mosque. In case you haven't been following this controversy -- it was proposed that a Islamic mosque and cultural center be built in Lower Manhattan. The site chosen was just two blocks away from the location of the 9/11 attacks.
Polls consistently show that a majority of Americans -- 64% or more -- oppose building the Islamic center. President Obama is in favor of the mosque. ... And naturally, Glenn Beck is against it. But tonight, Jon Stewart went after Beck, accusing him of "flip-flopping" and hypocrisy.
First, Beck attacked Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf -- the man who is trying to build the mosque. And then Beck presented this quote from Rauf:
"I wouldn't say that the United States deserved what happened [on 9/11], but United States policies were an accessory to the crime that happened."
Glenn Beck acted righteously appalled by this statement. But then, Stewart cut to a clip of Beck from three months earlier. And in that clip, Mr. Beck also argued that U.S. policies helped lead to 9/11. ... Whoops. This means that Mr. Beck and Mr. Rauf pretty much said the same thing.
So what do you guys think? Is Glenn Beck flip-flopping?
And whose side are you on with this whole "Ground Zero" mosque issue? ... Are you in favor of it, or against it? Do you support Team Obama and Stewart? Or are you on Team Glenn Beck?
