'The Huckebee Show' (weekdays, syndicated) on Tuesday featured the cautionary tale of Michelle Minton. The mother of two young children received a call from a bill collector -- who also represented himself as a lawyer -- claiming she owed $4,500.Even though Minton knew she didn't owe the money, the voice on the phone told her there was a warrant against her. He also told her the police would immediately arrest her -- and social services would be forced to take her kids -- if she didn't fork over half of the money.
"In my head I knew I didn't owe the debt," Minton explained. "But if I get arrested -- which I couldn't even fathom -- and get taken away, who's gonna watch my kids?"
So Minton give him her checking account information. Bad idea.
