MSNBC and 'Countdown With Keith Olbermann' (weeknights 8PM ET on MSNBC) snared the exclusive images of the last American combat soldiers leaving Iraq Wednesday night.Olbermann was in the studio, and embedded reporter Richard Engel was on the scene.
As the final Stryker armored vehicle rolled into Kuwait, Engel made the historic call:
"This might be it," Engel declared. "It is local time, almost 10 to 4 in the morning, and I believe we have just seen the last American combat soldiers cross into Kuwait. Yes, the gates are closing right now."
The combat phase of the Iraq War has ended after 2,709 days. For comparison sake, America's involvement in World War II lasted 1,365 days.
