Mark Wahlberg and HBO Working On 'Sprawling Epic' About Porn Industry

Mark WahlbergPorn has been good to Mark Wahlberg. After all, it was 1997's 'Boogie Nights' -- a look inside the adult entertainment industry of the '70s -- that propelled him from Marky Mark/Funky Bunch fame to full-on A-list actor status. (And let's not forget those infamous Calvin Klein underwear billboards which, while not strictly pornographic, were certainly hot.)

Now, some 13 years after his star turn as the well-endowed Dirk Diggler, Wahlberg, who's currently starring in the hit movie 'The Other Guys,' and his exec producing partner, Stephen Levinson, are working to develop an hourlong series on the porn industry.

According to the New York Post, the team is in talks with HBO -- home to their other shows, 'Entourage' and the upcoming 'Boardwalk Empire' -- about airing the series, the pilot of which will be written by controversial scribe James Frey -- he of 'A Million Little Pieces' fame.

"We're going to make a sprawling epic about the porn business in LA," Frey, who was once famously chastised by Oprah for inventing much of his "memoir," told the paper. "We're going to tell the type of stories no one else has told before, and go places no one has gone before."

The series, if it gets picked up, will also be notable because it will employ bona fide porn stars/adult performers as well as traditional actors -- no word yet on who they may have in mind to star.
